It started to be interesting in episode 2 when Gu SUng Hyo was introduced. He was such a powerful and the heart of the drama.. Everything will revolve on him and honestly I learned a lot from him. You need to take a second look before you started to appreciate this drama. Cho Seung Wo created a perfect character of Mr. Gu. The only thing that is not right is the character of Lee Dong Wook. hmmmm.. Can't blame you.. This genre is not for all. I struggle also to finish this but after it ended, I see why this is special. The story itself was superb. Understanding the real family problem in imperial family. This is not for binge watching. You need to train yourself to watch it like you are watching a day to day happening in the household.. Hope you can pick it up. For me the best part is the relationship between them. From Eunuch to Empress to concubine to Emperor. Huai Ji and Hui Rou's story was touching and I deeply analyze the life of Empress Danshu. I love her strong personality..

So true there are some flaws but their acting was superb.. That was quality acting and natural fire of chemistry. I guess this theme was not for all. I almost skip it because I also not a fan of this genre. Glad I tried this because I'm rewatching all Wang Kai's drama.. :)
I must say. Brother Ah Cheng was my hero here.. His responsibilities were enormous!! He takes care all the task that Ming Lou gave him and he needs to be witty all the time, he do all the errands of Ming Family, and he was also a spy. This guy has no leisure time… Him and Ming Lou were the best partner out there!!
