This drama gets a lot better as it progresses, both in terms of story progression and the acting. Definitely don't deserve all the bad reviews it's been getting in China, the only problem I have with it is the unrealistic/out of place special effects.
The plot diverges from the novel quite a bit, but I actually like the drama better (more OTP scenes).
The story is trash, basically a mishmash every possible k/cdrama cliche you can ever think of. Fortunately, the main couple's acting is great, particularly Zhou Dongyu, which makes this drama at least somewhat watchable.
The acting in this drama is actually decent compared to most chinese dramas (no significant overacting etc). Yes, Angelababy's acting is not necessarily praise-worthy, but still definitely watchable.
The story feels a bit fast at times, e.g. the main romance line. There's some deviation from the novel, though I think it makes sense for dramatic effect. Regardless, I think it's an exciting story so far (the novel feels a bit rushed in the early parts as well), and will definitely get better as the character & romance develops.
Great drama so far, though it takes its sweet time getting to the main plot. 10 episodes in, and I don't see a correlation to the drama description (the name of the main character hasn't even come up...)
