Title My Country: The New Age Spoiler
Why do the sageuk writers always have to insert an annoying FL who gets supported by everyone, who can slap people…
Totally understand you. I was annoyed by her character too. If she hadn't sent that letter about bribing incident, they would all be happy and alive. πŸ˜‚

I saw there’s romance in the genre. How much is there and are there any love triangles?
No love triangles. Romance is present but it's not the focus. This drama is heavy on politics. All of the characters are flawed and have complexity. I think they should remove romance tag πŸ˜‚

I don't understand all these complains about bad story, annoying characters and their poor decision making. We get to see all these characters as elders in TBOY and almost all of them are miserable and some dead. So what did y'all expect πŸ˜‚? Wise, matured young men and women? TBOY is all about how the new generation make their own martial arts world, (how they do things differently like solving problems without spilling a lot of blood). We see how the decisions made by the elders when they were young have affected the youth (eg: wuxin). So they want to be different. Ye yun's love story even if it is frustrating, is important because that's what caused the biggest event of that generation.

Their generation is full of mistakes and this story is about them.

I was gonna ask you if you are new to historical kdramas. This is a heavy one for newbies beacuse it is heavy on politics. Historical context is much needed so try watching it again after watching few more historical dramas.I'm sure your second watch will be a different experience. So many great actors. Indeed sad. All 4 of my fav characters died. Lol. I love the moral of the story. It is my favourite drama for years and no drama could top it.

Title My Country: The New Age Spoiler
I started watching this for Woo Do Hwan and have watched 13 episodes till now. But, I do not understand what actually…
At first, like everyone else Seonho wants to create his ideal country which is a country where even the people of lowest cast can live with dignity. He chose power over friendship but soon realise that his friendship was precious to him. His father is a scary old man so he tries to protect Hwi and Yeon in his own way. He is ambitious. Although he wants to protect his friend he don't want to let go of things he achieved such as his title or his rank in the process. He'd achieved alot for a bastard son. He doesn't want revenge for his mother. That's a misunderstanding. His mother's death wasn't something done by Nam jeon. It is just a part of seonho's tragic past. Revenge isn't something he seeks until yeon dies. Seonho wants Nam Jeon's acceptance. He just dislikes his father and is scared of him because he knows his father better than anyone and what he is capable of. Then Nam jeon kills Yeon. That's when seonho's hatred for his father really begin. Seonho loves Yeon as a lover. The writer said he realized his love for yeon gradually. He figures it out after her death. Beacuse Nam jeon took away yeon from him, he wants revenge. He plans to kill him with his own hands so that Nam jeon will be humiliated for being killed by his own son. He also believe he should be the one to do it. His plan didn't work well. They were accused of treason. Everything that happens there is politics. Anyway seonho deep down loved his father. So when he finally witnessed his death, he wasn't happy about it. Their father-son relationship is very interesting and complex. Nam jeon finally says what seonho always wanted to hear from him "you did well. You did more than enough". They were his last words. So soenho is really emotional there. His country is no longer there, everything he worked for is gone. He received acceptance from his father at last. His father is no longer there for revenge. So he is thinking about dieing. Obviously after all of that he is angry with Hwi. Hwi was blinded by revenge and failed to see what seonho was going through.

I hope this explanation will help you.
