On Duty after School: Part 2 May 6, 2023
It was quite unpleasant to say the least seeing the same guy who was JUST shown sexually assaulting a classmate and horrifically murdering most of his classmates in the two sequences at the end, just hanging out with everyone being friends and doing the rap sequence. I get what the drama makers were trying to go for, but it totally failed with tonal whiplash in the worst way.

Poor Lomfon, he was just minding his own business.

They spent six episodes to bring them together past all trauma and hurt just to keep them apart in the finale!…
Exactly.
On A Shoulder to Cry On Mar 31, 2023
If the actors were truly the ones who weren't comfortable and couldn't commit to the subject matter they were portraying, then they shouldn't have taken the parts. Rationalizing this unnecessary censorship is harmful to the progress in the depictions of queer characters in the media. If the characters were a heterosexual couple, then they would have 100% kissed, the only difference is they are both male. The lack of a kiss is only the final nail in the coffin and was not the only issue when it came time for them as an actual couple. The show just refused to commit to the actual queer relationship part of it despite promoting it being the draw of the show and it's all the more offensive seeing how the show can be good towards the portions of the story they actually cared about.

I'm not feeling the romance plot, but the time travel aspect with how Kiao now has to deal with 2022 and his now middle aged friends is interesting. It's sweet how Prach immediately helps Kiao and sad how Kiao finds out Art has passed away, but Kiao changes how he treats Bamee who he now knows is his friend's kid. I'm curious to see more of the reactions of more of his 97 friends in modern day. When Kiao says some off color things about gay people, he's a stand in for the older folks who aren't accepting and he's corrected by Prach's kid, I could see that being a recurring thing.

I just finished the series and I really enjoyed it. It's captures that bittersweet coming of age period of youth beautifully. I could feel that the writers are deeply familiar with youth drama and tropes and never settles with any stock archetypes or obstacles. The plot progresses organically and has their teens facing realistic issues while also modeling how to potentially deal with them. I'll leave my full thoughts about the show in detail in the review section, but I just really want to say that this show is good and gets better with every episode. I totally understand judging it by the first part of the show, sometimes shows takes a bit of time before it settles into a good groove, but it definitely does not deserve the misplaced vitriol. I've seen other similar target audience gmmtv shows also get the disproportionate and imo unfair, biased, anger beyond just a dislike of the show directed to them. It's odd and disconcerting. I'll think about it another day lol, for now I bask in the lovely feels of this gem.

I'm two episodes in and this is a cute teen romcom that has explanations and provides context that explains why the characters do and think what they do, which is already heads above so many shows both bl and in general. The leads are decent, Fourth has been good since his F4 role especially. The cinematography and editing is professional, which is better than other shows, even some higher budget gmmtv shows. I've been watching bl from all over the world for years and many including some popular ones are indeed total garbage, but this drama is nowhere near deserving of that. My opinion could always change once I finish the show, but it's good enough to keep watching from these opening eps.

Astrophile has excellent talent in both the main actors Bright and Mai, the sweetness of the burgeoning romance of their characters Kim and Nub, and the relatability of realistic family and workplace issues, looking forward to every episode.

The Kana Jing scenes was the randomly well crafted plot line in the whole mess of a series. Earth and Copter had…
Kana being completely in love with Jing who knows this but still always goes to him for comfort. It's genuinely sad seeing Kana accept that and choose to stay in Jing's life in this manner as a close friend.

It mostly made no sense. And was anyone else rooting for Earth and Copter's characters? It would have made it…
The Kana Jing scenes was the randomly well crafted plot line in the whole mess of a series. Earth and Copter had great chemistry and well directed understated performances.

I concur with your assessment. There is just a lot of bias against the setting and set up projected on the show instead of seeing it for what it is. I'm glad you enjoyed it, it's definitely the stronger show over Enchante, What Zabb Man, and La Cuisine.

On The Flaming Heart Jul 10, 2021
The Flaming Heart is fun to watch. The methods of rescue are varied to demonstrate all the variables they have to consider for the situation and the characters have a cute funny sides that are very entertaining as well. I also enjoy the quality of Gong Jun's voice very much, he's really great at sounding organic when delivering any kind of line, both with on set recording and the lines recorded in studio.
On The Flaming Heart Jul 10, 2021
The Flaming Heart rescue scenes are cool and the main characters are very competent professionals that have their cute funny sides and sweet romantic chemistry. The episodes are nice easy watches so far, excited to watch more.
On The Flaming Heart Jul 9, 2021
The Flaming Heart so far is a light breezy watch along with an interesting realistic portrayal of the rescue scenarios where they show the different variables that they have to think of to best save the person and are also making decisions that forces them to choose between prioritizing the saving people and bureaucratic demands that can punish them for doing their jobs. It's also a humanizing look at the various firefighter and medical professionals working together. They can be silly, can be petty, have opposing ideals, etc, but they will work together to the best of their ability to save people and help each other. Gong Jun who charismatically leads the drama as Huo Yan embodies this very well. He's an extremely capable veteran firefighter, but he's also just a regular guy who laughs, cries, has phobias, and gets along with others instead of a being super serious perfect genius loner who's above the rules or social conventions. The romantic plot line is also part of this, the drama does choose to have a music video style focus for some moments, but they also have their everyday regular relationship interactions and also conflicts to reflect the concerns of first responders in their personal lives. Gong Jun is extremely good at keeping the moments grounded in his acting delivery of the rescue scenes as well as the romantic and comedy scenes.
