Very nice article! As you said, hana yori dango ( 花より団子) is also a japanese proverb and it means that the practical is better than the aesthetic. But in the title, “dango“ is written with a different character (男子) and 男 means “man“, so it is also a pun, I think. So this is where the title “Boys over flowers“ comes from.
