I don't know when it happen but I have started to enjoy filler episode that meant to be one. You know the summer…
yes!! i saw it like the classic anime beach episode as well - sure it might not progress the plot in "big" ways but it's a great way to show more character interactions and development through a change of setting which, like you said, isn't really filler at all. and within a damn romcom of all, if it's fun and makes you smile, why the hell not? thats the purpose of the genre ^^
I'm not sure how his sister has been running the company so far, because her attitude sucks. Like she's the queen…
yeah i don't think she even does lol. i'm sure we're not supposed to read super deep into the management stuff, but i guess her methods so far have worked in her favor. she seems to have a very ruthless, "what i say, goes" type of approach and that can only get her so far, especially with how she seems to be dismissing advice by board members left and right and with how many things on the employee level could be handled a TON better, like we've seen with the super farmers week, incentives issue, etc
ep 10 was completely filler with no plot - they served us beautiful scenery and just blissful romance and honestly,…
so true! im happy its "filler" bc usually the drama kicks in immediately after the couple is happy for like half an episode. king the land said we're gonna let ppl have some fun first lol
and speaking hwaran - it baffles me to read so many people now say they prefer for her to get the company??? like do we forget this is the woman who literally would have left sarang to die in the mountains if it wasn't for guwon to get the heli? do we forget that? i get that won is just now starting to want to fight for the heir but that's because the romance is the A plot (if i read one more person say this needs more plot i will literally explode. this is a romcom y'all. the romance IS the plot) and the inheritance war is the B plot. and it's his plotline to start caring about the company because of his romance with sarang, because even if he wears his heart on his sleeve he had no motivation. he got that motivation through sarang and her opening his eyes more and more to what the employees actually go through, which gives him a reason to fight now.
i noticed that "being taken for granted" is a core theme of the drama and you can see it everywhere: the main one being of course the workers being taken for granted by their employers, then sarang's kindness being taken for granted by her boyfriend, and even daeul who is being taken for granted by her husband and in-laws.
and so the whole point with won's arc is that he genuinely cares for the workers - and hwaran, while a decent businesswoman, clearly does not. she thinks she owns them. guwon deserves to be the heir, because the end goal is the employees receiving genuine appreciation and respect for what they do, and to not just to be taken for granted. and this can never happen while hwaran is at the top.
i read an article where the screenwriter for the drama mentions that she has 17 years (!) of experience in the service industry and has also consulted many others who work or have worked in it to create the drama, which is so cool and had me go "I KNEW IT" bc there's no way a mere classic romcom like this would have so many sensibilities concerning this topic. she said "King The Land is also a work that i made with the desire for everyone in the workplace to be respected as a colleague." this drama is basically just a giant love letter to service workers, neatly packaged as a heart fluttering, tropey chaebol romcom. and i love it. :) <3
it just dawned on me that sarang and guwon are sooo barbie and ken coded lol. they are both in a cute barbie romcom, while hwaran thinks she's in succession 😂
Actually, this is what rom-com should be about. We're just watching two people falling in love with each other…
everything you said 👏👏👏 i also rewatched some parts and it definitely isn't as cliche? sure maybe the character set up and premise is, but the way the characterization and relationship has been handled is extremely refreshing compared to what we usually get in this genre.
