Honestly the storytelling sucks. I skip a lot of boring scenes so that helps.
BUT I love the humor that they have going on. I'm laughing in every single episode. I also love the side character stories that we get, though I feel like some of it could be executed better.
I'm mostly just watching because it's 2 female leads and one of the closest things we'll ever get to having a GL drama. Even though Jiang Yiyi is playing Nezha, a male character. (Can I just say that I hated her bangs so much in the first 10ish episodes?)
I think the comedy makes up for what the story is lacking in so this is a bearable drama. Though I still wouldn't rate this drama very high.
This is the biggest joke lol. No production team will have that much money to hire all these A-list actresses.
Even as guest appearances, I doubt they'd release that much info. And like you said, it's more likely to happen in a movie than drama. Everything is just rumors right now. Actually, this looks more like fan casting than rumors.

Just finished watching Nirvana in Fire. Is is a Masterpiece.But there are few things that keep bothering me about…
I would also add that in regards to Prince Jing not recognizing Lin Shu. I think part of it is that he didn't want to put the two people together. Mei Changsu in his eyes, for awhile, was a cold heartless strategist who will use anyone as a pawn no matter what and may even be willing to sacrifice their lives. This is completely opposite of Lin Shu's personality that was more righteous and carefree. Mei Changsu also came to him with the intention of "gaining fame", which is something that Lin Shu probably would have never cared about. Even though he slowly came to see Mei Changsu's more human side, they were still two vastly different personalities.
Don't quote me on this point but I THINK Lin Shu was more of a military genius. Whereas Mei Changsu was a genius in all realms of politics. So that may have also influenced Prince Jing to not connect Mei Changsu to being Lin Shu. He probably never expected Lin Shu to become a political genius on top of his military knowledge.
And in case you were interested, chubbycheekthoughts explained how Prince Jing found out about Lin Shu in the novel. "Jing Yan only knew it when Yan Que (Marquise Yan) mention that when he and General Lin was roaming Jiang Hu they both took up fake names so that no one will know their true identities. Upon probing, Yan Que made fun of the late General Lin as he pointed a tree and name himself after it thus becoming “Mei Shi Nan”. Recalling an incident where both his mother and Mei Chang Shu mention that they knew one another as Mei Chang Su’s father saved Jin Yan’s mother and both of them confirm the name, Jing Yan then ignored his guests and race over to Mei Chang Su but he stopped on the way there saying that since Xiao Shu does’t want him to know he will then not disclose that he knew." Thank you Hessa and mali. I actually have my own copy of Nirvana in Fire stored in my hard drive and have rewatched it a couple times. I'm just disappointed that Viki in the US replaced it with English dub. I can imagine the frustration that others may be having as they try to enjoy the drama in its original content and quality without having to jump through hoops to watch it.

If you're left disappointed by this drama, please give the movie version , Soulmate, a try. The movie came out first then they made the drama adaptation. The movie was perfect and I cried a bucket full of tears.
The version that's available on Viki (USA) is now English DUB. I don't know why they thought it'd be a good idea to replace the perfect original voice acting with English voice acting that sounds like something from the Bruce Lee era. It's worst than English dubbed anime. The original is still available on dramacool but the resolution isn't the greatest. I guess the next best way to watch this is to download the whole series and get subtitles on subscene. Viki screwed everyone over with this change. I'm extremely disappointed in them.

Interestingly enough, if you really want to know... Fan Xian didn't travel to the past, he traveled to the far future in which human civilization started over. Not sure if that'll change your mind about it. I'm enjoying his character a lot more than from the novel. (haven't read it, but been reading comments) In the novel he comes off as super pervy and the typical male protagonist written by men who fantasize about having a harem.
