I used to feel guilty for dropping a drama because I didn't feel qualified to give an informed review. But due to the assembly line approach to mass producing rom-coms in particular, I've found it easier to walk away from a series after the first or second episode when I see the same played out tropes being repeated ad nauseam.
Maybe my expectations for this show were too high, but I think K-dramas are superior in some ways to other Asian dramas, as far as storytelling and depth of character are concerned. I just felt that large portions of Do Bong Soon's character went unexplored.
I mean, it's not so much the questionable casting of Lee Min Ho as a high schooler that I found problematic. It was the alleged need for his character to be violent, aggressive, and verbally abusive. Then to be rewarded for his despicable behavior with Jan-Di's love, which her parents are okay with because he's rich. WTF! I get that the manga and various live action versions of this story are still very popular, which I find unfortunate. There should be no version of this story where the romantic female lead should hook up with a romantic male lead that caused other students to act violently towards her to the point where she was nearly sexually assaulted. How the fuck is that romantic or entertaining?
