becoming kind of a chore to watch; something isn;t gel-ing. I like the mysterious real estate tycoon is the black dude's grandma. I wish Nara was in the story more. I think this is one of those had a lot of potential; its pretty good but very hard to pin down exactly what could have been fixed. Kdrama fairy dust?
Chewie! Love Eric Munn's youthful haircut; looking good! Wait the white dude in the Blue suit is he a defence industry guy from Vagabond. Loved the micro-tour he took including the fish and jackfruit! Off to a great start!
i've been waiting for a cute light drama to watch. There seem to be more than the usual number of either dark or melodramatic ones out for the last year!
I get the feeling I watched a 3 episode special with this exact vibe. (Little Forest 2018?) Anyway, very much enjoying the serene pacing and the warmth of the book store and club meeting.
I started watching this drama only because of the good reviews but its just too freaking bad. Cops are stupid,…
I agree way too highly rated. Ratings are a problem; hard to solve though. Many classics from 5, 10 years ago have lower ratings because as many more people watch them they rate them according to their taste. Meanwhile, new shows for some reason more people are motivated to rate them too highly. I'm probably going to drop this t ep. 7 its getting too ridiculous.
So unrealistic, Hwi kills 10-15 men alone, even all 4 of them together kills no matter how many men they are against,…
A highly skilled swordsman is lethal against less skilled infantry.
As an aside: Armored knights became increasingly obsolete with pikes, longbow (Crecy) and later cannon and firearms. And with that, so called chivalric warfare, transitioned to early modern warfare. Later on Maurice of Nassau and King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden reformed and improved infantry tactics during the 30 Years War. Alex, What is the Peace of Westphalia?
Were there similar things going on in the Goryeo, Joseon period?
This is one of my top 5 kdramas ever. The other Kim Sun Ah drama Scent of a Woman is up there too.
The characters are memorable and the humor and feistiness of the Kim Sam Soon really makes this unique. The setting is awesome and the fact that she is on the one hand a french trained pâtissière but does not have a college degree which the match makers question. She hates her name; the back story with her dad is very touching.
The sister obviously was also very successful and then got divorced. Sam Soons family had been well off and very well respected in the old way; they were the miller family. However because of their dads kindness/naivety to a relative they have fallen on harder times.
This falling in between gives this drama so much more depth than your by the numbers kdrama.
I love the mom and receptionist. Somebody pointed out the horrible clothing and seeing the restaurant employees leave after their work is over I have to agree the clothes are ugh; too horrible to contemplate. But look at our Sam Soon dark pants and unflattering horizontal striped t-shirt; love her even MORE!
Sam Shik even though a chaebol-son has real tragedy that he is carrying around with him in his present life. Most kdrama chaebol stuff is ultra boring business, dark plotting weird mental condition etc. None of that here.
You will be hard put to find another kdrama with such a rich background.
Anyway I will watch it again this summer (hopefully) for the 5th time.
Thought I was the only one. I know , if this was real, they were gonna have hella scars on their bodies
With warring factions and chaos there could be violence down to the person to person level. We're used to only the state carrying out violence: war; and that only rarely.
Its Mistaaa Gong! I am on ep. 12 and loving it. This is one of the best historical dramas I have watched. Amazing characters and great momentum in its story telling. No set piece scenes with the whole court going "Make it so Chonah!" Mumbling by Left Minister to his underlings and all the usual boring claptrap of most saeguk that frankly makes me less than a fan of the genre.
This is a much more muscular character driven form of story telling. There are great tidbits like at the very beginning that said " let all have private armies to help you keep order Your Majesty." Thats not going to turn out well. I have been watch 4 episodes at a time. I think I will up my rating.
I am a little disappointed that the FL seems to have less and less to do as the story goes along.
Agreed with Kate's review; I really didn't enjoy it towards the end. His weekling character got too painful to watch. This drama had a lot going for it.
I'm in cleanup mode; so I dropped this about half way through. It was very good for many episodes but when most of the story went dark and political instead of the ML/FL adventures I lost interest.
This was a terrific show. The balance between AI stuff, ML, FL problems, love, corporate intrigue were well balanced. 12 ep. was the right length. I watched this all in two days. THKS ntflx.
A lot of Kdramas let the corporate stuff veer into nonsense and time wasting (how many hours have we wasted on PT?).
From the first two hours I think this drama is much better than ITAEWON CLASS but can't understand why 'Forest'…
Just the opposite for me: Itaewon Class seemed off to a great start; understandable plot. Forest keeps going back and forth in a confusing way bad editing, story timeline.
I am really enjoying this one because; there are a bunch of sageuks out now that I don't want to invest too much time on post ep. 6. Go Ha Neul character is getting on my nerves a little bit now. She seems to have brilliant insights, puts together huge analyses but then is unable to answer questions when colleagues put her on the spot. And then goes dae? dae? Also the tucking the hair behind the ear, ugh.
I'm on episode 4 and I'm not sure if I can continue. This show is just sad + sad+ sad. I'm too fragile. The characters…
I may have to put this one off until I am in the right mood for it. Also I kind of forgot I was watching it so the back and forth time jumping and the triple-scoop sadness isn't doing it for me right now. This also has kind of that old-style melo feel to it....
Enjoying this; though in ep. 6 it was hard not to get mad at Dong Shik for alternately being a doofus, then thinking he's an psychopath genius then not wanting to help that witness but in the end helping.
This has been unique and not overly melo/dark; loved the real psycho's back story with his dad.
Plus Sergei the cat looks like our kitty!
