The Quiet Beauty Of Unrequited Love
It’s not exceptional, but it’s a solid watch and feels pretty realistic. We Best Love follows the classic enemies-to-lovers trope which I’m honestly a sucker for, but this one isn’t too intense. It’s more like, Shuyi dislikes Shide, but Shide is lowkey obsessed and just wants to be near him all the time. 😅 Honestly, Shide’s been totally whipped for Shuyi from the very beginning.
Shuyi, meanwhile, is dealing with heartbreak and unexpectedly finds love with someone of the same gender. The plot is simple but meaningful, it touches on unrequited love in a way that feels real and relatable.
So the love triangle (or square?) goes like this: Shuyi likes his childhood friend, Shide likes Shuyi, and Shi Zhe Yu likes Shide. Yep, it’s a whole web of unreturned feelings, which the story really leans into. Shuyi’s confusion about his feelings for Shide is something I think a lot of people can relate to especially since he even dates a girl at one point just to figure things out. But that moment when Shuyi finally confesses to Shide while crying, and then they kiss? I literally giggled, it was so sweet. 🥰
The pacing is good, and the actor who plays Shuyi is honestly great, he nails all the emotional shifts. Same goes for Shide’s actor. And the chemistry? Off the charts.
The ending is open (season 2 continues it), but it works. My only complaint is the visuals, they’re kinda washed out. I’ve noticed this with a lot of Taiwanese dramas, even newer ones. Not sure why they can’t get better quality in that department.
Still, We Best Love is an easy and heartfelt watch with just the right amount of fluff. It’s simple, but it feels genuine.
