well, China doesn't really approve of BL novels. It isn't illegal, it's just that the government doesn't like them. So when this drama became popular, it was fine with the govt because they would rather have a drama adapted from a book "written" by a plagiarizer than a drama that has censored bromance. After Addicted Heroine, you can probably see that the Chinese govt is strongly against LGBT on screen.

So, Tang Qi Gong Zi wins.

I have a question for people who finished watching this drama. Do they later explain why those women in ep. 11…
well, the women are widows of men who had fought a battle with Ji Chong, but they took an impulsive move during a battle to prevent Ji Chong from going to battle and lost, and they were later beheaded by the Jin emperor. So basically, the women think that Ji Chong killed their husbands.

And Ji Chong is special, which is why he didn't die and the people tried to prevent him from going to war.
