After watching the 7th ep, my thoughts - I hope it gets better, really. So far, I'm still not invested in the story. The editing feels choppy and the scenes are rushing by too fast. I know the novel has some 800+ chapters, but the drama writing feels very lazy. The cinematography is really pretty though, so bonus points for that.
The characters also feel pretty one dimensional. Meng ziyi feels like a supporting character in her own drama. The ML is also just... there. Also, how's he in every place where the FL is? That's just too much coincidence (this is what I mean by lazy writing). I'd imagine, if the FL goes to the moon, he'll somehow be there as well.
The supporting characters are overshadowing the main leads. They are doing a great job.
So far, I'm not convinced. The premise of the story was good and I'm always in for a rebirth-revenge drama. I'm wondering if I should drop this drama and read the novel instead.
Watching ep 10 right now and as a fan of the book, I had very low expectations from the drama since they changed the story entirely from the book.
But I am very surprised at how much I'm liking the drama. The writer was able to write very layered characters. I did not expect YeLi to have so much depth to her character. And I like how in each ep we get to see a layer peeled away. I also liked how they wrote Mo Xiuyao's character in the drama vs the book. Seems more human.
I hope I'm not celebrating too soon and the story continues to surprise me as the drama progresses.
In Bai Lu's acting and Cheng Lei's shirtless scenes we trust.
personally seems you don't like CEW, if not you won't say he hasn't improved for 8 years, I know you are entitled…
I say this as someone who's seen a lot of dramas - cha eun woo is objectively bad at acting. And I'm sorry that you think he's a good actor. He's had multiple opportunities to improve his acting in the last 8 years and his expressions are still the same 8 years later. Gangnam beauty is one of my fav dramas so I have no personal enmity towards him. He's just not good at emoting.
He became wayy too possessive of her and wouldn't let her go fight in the war, even though, she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself.
This was in the last chapter I think- she didn't want to have sex with him because she was tired I think (from all the making out they were doing from the nights before). And he still had sex with her.
I know this cuz I'd read the last few chapters hoping his character changes a bit. Nope, he was still the same.
Xiahou Dan transmigrated when he was a child in middle school. He met the FL when he'd already spent many years as the king.
The crown prince is his child. He was drugged and raped by the crown Princess and the empress dowager.
The novel has a HE. Xiahou Dan dies first and he goes back to when he was a child. He still has all his memories from his life as Xiahou Dan. He grows up and becomes a CEO and buys the game that pulled the FL into the story.
So technically, she went into the story bec of him. He also became a CEO bec that's how he'd introduced himself to her the first time they met.
Later when she dies in the story, she comes back to the metro where she was when she transmigrated. She later goes to his company and meets him. Turns out, the day before, he actually went to her apartment with flowers to wait for her to come back.
Final thoughts: They really did continue with the whole gender reversal trope till the end of the drama: they treated Neo's character exactly the same way, the so called "badass" FLs are treated in other dramas - one dimensional characters who seem to forget their ambitions after they meet the ML.
Neo's acting was great as usual, no notes. This was my first Nezha drama so i went in with no expectations. Honestly, she could've emoted a little better (a common complaint i have in most idol dramas).
The cinematography was great though. Loved seeing the tea plantations. And also enjoyed the short GK sessions at the end of each episode. I now know a bit more about Ming Dynasty.
Overall - 8.4 is a deserved rating.
PS: this drama was a battle between who looks prettier: Neo or Nezha. I choose Neo.
Thoughts till Ep 28 - I don't see any efforts from RSB's end on her relationship with LJL. He's doing the heavy lifting so far while she remains ambiguous to him.
I need to see more angst, yearning from RSB. Alas, I don't think we'll see any in the few eps left.

Pretty privilege can only take you so far.
I hope they make a season 2.
The villains did so well. Bae Nara, my bae, when are they going to give you a lead role in a rom com??
I loved loved how eun chae ni and her grandmom were always in sync with their emotions lol.
PS- Cha eun woo, buddy, how has your acting not improved since Gangnam Beauty ðŸ˜ðŸ˜. It's been 8 years ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

Otherwise, the cinematography is amazing. Love the juxtaposition of diff colours on a snowy backdrop.
The author didn't mention anything about kids after they came back to the real world.
The drama may not follow the novel exactly.
