Imugis and Vengeful Spirits Can't Compare to Evil Humans

#Halloween Watches

This was tagged as a romantic comedy with imugis and vengeful spirits, which had a comfortable ratio of laughter to a touch of horror.

The Good:

• The ML was engaging as the imugi with a superior attitude and a decidedly fish-out-of-water experience as a mortal human. His delight at discovering the tastiness of food and his resulting gluttony was engaging. Yook Sung Jae was charming as he navigated mortal life, learning about love, jealousy, and sacrifice. His smirks, smiles, and laughter were captivating.
• Kim Ji Hoon was outstanding as the beleaguered king. His soulful eyes shone with love for his queen, crinkled in joy when watching his son, and brimmed with tears when he discovered how his people had been sacrificed.
• Character actress Cha Chug Hwa performed the role of the imugi's faux mother with her usual flair.
• Finally, I've viewed a drama in which I loved the king, the queen, and the head eunuch! I don't believe that's ever happened before. Generally, I root for the head eunuch's head to roll.

The Bad:

• As for romance, it was an underwhelming part of the drama. There was more chemistry between the king and the imugi. Their bickering and vying for the upper hand was amusing to watch, and they had a true bromance. The romance between the FL and ML either needed to be jettisoned or built up.
• The drama counted on utter stupidity to keep the plot propped up and to extend the story. I tired of the villain being released repeatedly. It was exhausting.

Scare factor: negligible. The barfing water spirit with the black vomit was more gross than frightening.

I'm adding a half star for imugi smirks, a king's emoting, and a head eunuch I didn't want impaled.
