It's less about the age different, more about the "CP vibes" their appearances give if you know what i mean. Like Wang Churan is also 24 but she has a feminine look rather than a girl-ish look so she can look good even with a 34yo. Similarly in Ten Miles Peach Blossom, Dilraba was young and the guy was old but her pair didn't felt like a high school girl falling for an uncle.
FL is pretty and ML is handsome but they really look like a teenager and an thirty something year old, hardly any chemistry, I cannot ship them despite trying to watch more episodes.
I really like Yukee and Dylan but this drama really suffered due to poor editing and the over-emphasis on the Emperor's "tragedies". He could have had a better story line instead of being miserably obsessed with the female lead for the entirety of his storyline which got quite tiring to watch.
