Honestly, because I immediately continued watching the sequel, I didn't have any lingering thoughts about the way the finale ended. I suppose if I was watching in real time I might've noticed it, but it didn't stick out to me because I knew there were more episodes.
But I feel like even if I had experienced the show that way, I'd probably feel the same as you. It didn't stand out to me as being out of place or lacking.
And thinking about it more critically, the "high five" moment is kind of the first moment they make prolonged physical contact, so it's a turning point in their relationship. Especially when we find out Sarawat's POV and how it all started at a Scrubb concert.
