I like the cheesy cgi. It clearly looks fake, but I think it adds to the magical-ness of the show. The ml is kind of annoying, but it seems pretty typical of the high strung character he is.

There is a book. 惹上妖孽冷殿下-全本 by 晨光熹微 . I haven't been able to find it anywhere but Amazon China on kindle. If you find it elsewhere, let me know.

I agree, don't bother with the American version. I think it was called Boys Before Friends and I'm not even sure you can find it anymore. They went through 3 lead actresses and 2 male leads in the space of like 6 episodes. Then they ran out of money and started a crowdfunding page but shut it down and just quit. It was terrible, though.
