I think you missunderstood a story. In previous life, she was so cunning and it killed her. On second life, she toned down that and understanding other people perspective. She overcome her cruelty , she realized she become cruel because of her bleak past and gradually forgiving other people. Her sole down fall because Yan Lin and she changed her ways. She still cunning but not cruel anymore.
