it is not that old dramas are rated low, it is more that the new dramas are rated too high. the current trend…
Unfortunately, that’s how it is today. Again, going by Reddit because I am on there frequently. It is a very common and reoccurring theme that a new thread is started every hour, It seems, with someone asking “does Xxx show get better because I just can’t stand the male lead or the female lead they’re so toxic they are so this or that” , it’s as if nobody wants good character development in their stories… like you said they want them to be perfect with no flaws from the first episode all the way to the last. its just not realistic, it does not make for good long, lasting drama for me.
I guess I’m easy, I don’t get offended by almost anything so I don’t mind the old shows and I also love the new shows even if they are watered down because it seems you have to today. if I’m entertained I’m happy. I just find the older shows are more real to life day to day people.
I’m watching “bad housewife “ from 2005 right now and wow! I think if newer generations watch this , their heads would explode 😂
Another drama that's being robbed with that rating. This was really good. No annoying characters, the second leads…
yup this is a great show, no idea how it has such a low rating. I’m beginning to think that the oldies are better , definitely better than what the ratings show. Still some amazing shows being made though.
this show made me a fan of Song Ji Eun’s music as well. It is a shame she doesn’t seem to act all that much.
I don't understand why the ratings for older dramas are so low. It's not just this one, but most of them. There…
***désolé de ne pas répondre en français, ça va me prendre une éternité d’écrire ce que j’ai écrit en anglais plus bas (le français est ma 3e langue )***
I didn’t understand this myself either until I joined the subreddit “Kdrama recommendations” on Reddit.
if you go on there and browse you will quickly realize the criticism given to old shows, the reason why they’d not rate higher than a 7 and ,why some people recommend to stay away from them:
-the shows are very dated -the men are toxic -the fashion is terrible -terrible hairstyles -the cinematography is terrible -too many episodes -etc but mainly the first two.
I think it also depends on the age of the person watching these shows; younger viewers tend to rate these shows lower, if they bother to watch, because the above really bothers them and they can’t get past it. Some people find shows from 2018 “old”.
As for myself, I only started watching Kdrama in October, 2022, and I’ve come to realize that I’m liking these older shows more mainly because I find they take a better time developing the characters and in cases like the ML on this show , the redemption arc is given the time to be believable and fleshed out (seriously had major hate for him in the first half of series). I’m not saying newer shows don’t do this but from what I’ve seen , I have preference for the older shows by a hair.

7,9 is too low for this show.
