I think a lot of the impact of wyel is lost if you were not watching it when it dropped. Sure the acting is not the absolute best, its very short, the filming is not that sparking kdrama polish people expect, the story can feel rushed.

Despite that it still felt like lightning in a bottle when it dropped because of what it did have. It was short but well contained, with the story still getting a satisfactory set up, pay off, conclusion. The actors were new but they had electric chemistry. And most importantly, it had a happy ending. No one, and I mean No One, expected it to have a happy ending when it was airing. There was simply no reason for people to think that it would, so when it did, it gave people so much joy and hope for the future of gay media in Korea.

This show really started kbl's being a thing, and started the trend of idol-actors in them. This show gave way to the ability for kbls to go more mainstream and for people to feel like they could treat them as they would any other kdrama, not a doomed story.

Part of my rating is nostalga yes, but I think context matters in why wyel is considered a good show.
