this drama has taken over my life. i can't stop thinking about it. 😂

she is greedy when it comes to wealth and ruthless when it comes to threats. she takes bribes, she kills, and she commits crimes without remorse. on paper, she is a villain. and yet... she is not a monster. at the end of the day, she is a mother trying to provide for her daughters in any way she can during an era where women didn't have many rights or protection. she knows her husband doesn't care, so she just wants to ensure that they'll be okay once she can no longer be there for them. this makes me love her as a character, and even pity her. under different circumstances, i don't think she would have taken this path.

i cannot express how much i love the writing of each character... even the side characters! they are all so distinct yet familiar.

take madam yan, for example:

royal betrothal's rating is actually lower now because of its lackluster ending... but look on the bright side. now that royal betrothal has concluded, more viewers will need to find something new to watch, and they will most likely come here. maybe the road of splendor will impress some of those viewers too.

i love mo yi! along with the rest of the crown prince's men lol. they're supposed to be lethal and intimidating, and yet somehow they come off as so approachable and endearing.

both of our main characters are easy to root for, but if you like a man who treats everyone well, i think you will really like zhao ling. ding yuxi is doing a fantastic job, so there is no boring ml here lol.

imo, this family is worse. it isn't just one villain scheming to ruin the fl's life, there are several.

episode 8 only further proves that kindness is a strength, not a weakness. it is because of how well zhao ling treats others even when he doesn't need to that he keeps receiving good karma. just when you think a moment of mercy from him will go unaccounted for, it is returned to him in ways he least expected. a criminal with a heart of gold. ❤️

yeah... if we look at the rating breakdown by age group, the drama is actually sitting on 8.5 to 9.3. so the low overall rating is just because trolls have a lot of time on their hands.

i'm assuming that's because there isn't much marketing for it. those who know about it are mostly the ones who follow the projects of the actors and director.
