I was writing that long review earlier when I saw the drama’s hashtags and noticed the #agegap tag. I thought,…
I’ve already explained this pretty clearly in my earlier comment, but since you asked—I don’t mind breaking it down again. I’m not against age gaps in general. As long as both people are clearly adults. The issue here is that she was only 19 during filming while he was 36. Yes 19 is legally an adult, but to me it still feels too young to be paired romantically with someone that much older.
At 19 most people are just starting to figure things out. Meanwhile 36 is a very different stage of life. That gap in maturity and life experience matters, especially when it’s being romanticized on screen.
I’m not questioning the actress’s personal decision, she may have been totally fine with it and that’s her right. My concern is more about how choices like this reflect industry patterns, especially when one party is still very young.
That being said, I do think both actors did a good job. Their performances were solid and their chemistry worked. My concern is with the casting decision, not with their acting.
Despite that I’m still watching and honestly enjoying the drama. It’s well made, the story is fun, and the characters are engaging. I just can’t fully ignore that one aspect.
Can Chinese costume dramas that are actually good please stop ending with nothing but a longing stare 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Can we at least get a hug… or maybe even a scene where the main couple has a child 😭😭😭 Why is it always the misunderstanding is resolved and then they just stare at each other. It feels so incomplete 😔😔😔😔 I’m genuinely sad I won’t get to see Li Song’er and Gu Yuan’s child :(((
I was writing that long review earlier when I saw the drama’s hashtags and noticed the #agegap tag. I thought,…
Today I finished episode 13 and came here just to vent a little. I was lowkey hoping they’d suddenly drop the last seven episodes in one go so I could finally binge the whole thing 😂
But then while scrolling through the comments, I saw someone mention that this drama was actually filmed four years ago—which means Bao Shangen was 19 at the time.......
And if that’s true, I just… paused. She was literally still a teenager, and they paired her with a 36-year-old man in a romance drama. I know 19 is technically legal, but that doesn’t make it any less uncomfortable. I’m not blaming the actors—this is on the production team who looked at that casting and thought, “Yeah, that works.” And no, it really doesn’t. 😐
And yeah I did wonder why Bao Shangen looked so young. I thought she just had one of those forever baby faces (which honestly is common in Chinese dramas—I always mess up when trying to guess their ages). But nope, she looked young because she was.
So now I’m torn. I was enjoying the show, I liked Gu Yuan, and the comedy actually landed sometimes. But after finding that out, it just feels different. And the more I think about it, the more I can’t pretend it’s not a problem. Because it is 😬😬
I am very, very, very obsessed with Gu Yuan’s face—UGH HE IS ABSURDLY HANDSOME, especially when he flirts…
I was writing that long review earlier when I saw the drama’s hashtags and noticed the #agegap tag. I thought, “Wait, how big is their age gap anyway?” I assumed maybe 8 to 10 years at most… and then I found out the actor who plays Gu Yuan is 40 years old. I was genuinely shocked 😭 like?? He doesn’t look 40 at all in the drama—his chemistry with Bao Shangen felt so natural and seamless, I didn’t even think about the age gap.........
But anyway Bao Shangen is 23 and totally legal so it’s not a big deal. I was just a little caught off guard 😭👍🏻
I am very, very, very obsessed with Gu Yuan’s face—UGH HE IS ABSURDLY HANDSOME, especially when he flirts with Li Songer AAAAAAAAA 😫😫😫😩😩😵😵😵😵😵💫😵💫😵💫😣😖😣😖😣
I enjoy the troublemaker and the clingy Li Songer because I find she’s genuinely endearing 🤓🤏🏻🤏🏻🤏🏻
I’m constantly in awe because Chu Mengdie is remarkably gallant and composed—undeniably deserving of the title “Number One Female Warrior in the Martial World.” 🥶🥶🔥🔥
I AM BEYOND FRUSTRATED with that fool Baili Xingchen—how can someone be so utterly lacking in sense 😭 but well I can somewhat understand considering he’s probably never had a single brain-nourishing meal in his life........... honestly, he’s incredibly naive like a child wandering through a jungle of tigers 🤗 Thank goodness this is a comedy, because if it weren’t, he’d likely have perished in episode 1 😔 (btw I actually respect the actor portraying Baili—his portrayal of foolishness feels remarkably authentic. I first saw him in Moonlight Mystique 😂 where he also managed to frustrate the audience 😭 Still, his performance is undeniably strong—he genuinely makes me fight back laughter 😆👍🏻)
udah tamat 😭😭😭😭😭 sedih soalnya bbrp hari terakhir seru bgt nungguin on goingnya, semoga s2nya bisa cepet tayang (harapan yg gatau kapan bakal terkabul 😭😭) jujur penyelesaian kasusnya menurutku ngga se gong proses demi prosesnya yg dikulik sih, mungkin karena terdiri dr bbrp kasus jg ya makanya udh selesainya gt doang soalnya bakal ada kasus lg. ga sabar bgtttt 🥶🥶🥶 btw yang ziqi ganteng bgt hehehehehehe 🤏🏻🤏🏻
first time nonton short drama yg bikin aku sampe komen karena bagusss, asli ini kalau dibuat longnya (i mean di…
ENIH MDL KENAPA SIH kata-kata buat reviewnya dibatasin cm 500 kata?!?!?!
keempat, emg sejak kapan ya li xing he sm zhang xiaomeng menumbuhkan perasaan? scene mereka bareng sejak awal memang ngga banyak, aku paham ini genre misteri TP YA SEENGGANYA jgn langsung jatuh cinta dong egeee keliatan bgt alurnya dipaksakan 😭
udah sih itu aja. kalau terkait akting..... banyak yg masih kurang sih tp banyak jg yg bagus. a big round of applause for the whole crew for your hard work 👏🏻🤓
btw s2nya kapan tayang yak ntar aku keburu lupa sm alurnya 😭
does she think the enemies won’t chase her husband anymore? oh god, i will laugh until i die 😭 since when can the world work so simply like this? i feel like there’s something wrong with the writer of this drama, hey, are you okay?
the one i pity the most is prince yu, who dies to protect bai yueguang 🙂↔️🙂↕️ a pathetic support role. the female lead plays a back-and-forth love game with the male lead, acting like she doesn’t want him but actually does. then the support role falls in love for real with the female lead. in the end, the support role will die protecting the female lead 🤣 this truly unbearable cliché and cringe drama plot
what will make me so mad is that after prince yu makes a sacrifice involving his life, bai yueguang, who’s already in the male lead’s arms, thinks that if she runs away again, she will keep the male lead away from danger? fuck. in the end, you will be caught by your husband’s enemies and drag him down even more
i really want to ask, doesn’t being a wife make you think “no, i better not run away and just stay to support my husband.” like that???? doesn’t she think that by running, she will make her husband distracted and vulnerable to attack because he will be worried about her leaving? doesn’t she think that she will be so, so, so troublesome for her husband? i’m so baffled how a female lead could be this stupid
okay, forget about the plot, i will review other parts. for the setting and cinematography—though not that great for me to rate 10/10, it’s still quite pleasing to the eyes. then, for the acting of the actors and actresses, it’s also decent, well, it needs to be improved to be better. i’ve followed dramas with the actor playing the male lead, and most of his dramas are like this. hmmm, he still needs improvement in acting. then, one thing that really caught my interest is the ost of this drama. out of all the things that are truly uninteresting, the ost is the only good thing. so pleasant to listen to. i will praise the singer and lyricist! awesome.
the last thing is the ending. what’s with xu heyu rising from the dead and just staring at bai yueguang, then calling each other’s name and THE END? REALLY? just like that? huh. so annoying. i thought it would continue in the modern world because xu heyu in the modern world is the female lead’s boss.
ugh, so that’s it. well, anyway, i will appreciate the crew who worked hard, even though i want to criticize the writer to death because this drama plot is so cliché and cringe. i don’t mind the transmigration, but what’s with the wife running away when the husband needs her support so he can focus on attacking the enemies? ckckck. in the end, the female lead involves so many people, truly a waste of time 🥱
