i mean i usually like plots like this, but isn’t the female lead supposed to at least have the same value as the male lead? this drama lowkey feels like a cinderella rip-off, and not in a good way. the fl is basically useless here—like all she does is run to the ml and complain. sure, the ml wants her, but bro… watching this made me sigh the entire time. the storyline is super disappointing, zero weight, and nobody seems remotely smart. maybe the only part that had potential was when they stood up against the zhou family.
and honestly, i kept wondering… is this drama meant to be a comedy or did the execution just fall apart? the fl’s messed-up relationship with her family being played as comedy is wild to me. everything her family did to her was already disgusting. logically, the fl should hate them and start planning her own moves, not act like she’s still craving affection from a family that never treated her right. it doesn’t make sense why someone would stay in that cycle for more than ten years.
then bro wkwkwk… dear writer and director, y’all seriously need to rethink how you portray a ceo character. at least make the work environment believable. all i see is him chilling, handling household drama, instead of, y’know, being a ceo?? like put him behind a desk, give him documents, show him actually working. he doesn’t even hold a single file in the entire company scene. that's honestly embarrassing 😭 a little bit of research on corporate settings would help so much.
moving on to acting, makeup, and costumes. the acting really needs improvement—they don’t feel connected to their roles at all. then the makeup… way too heavy. even when they’re sleeping?? can y’all please make it look more natural? i’m confused why they look fully glam even in bed. for costumes, some scenes feel over-the-top and not fitting the setting. like, is that outfit even appropriate for an office? or some scenes where the wardrobe clearly doesn’t match the place they’re in.
to be fair though, a lot of the everyday outfits do look good, especially when the characters aren’t in the makeup room too long. they do look convincing as wealthy people. but the crying makeup—bro—sometimes it’s too dramatic, like the fl's ex when he’s drunk or the fl’s friend when she cries. and some outfits are genuinely nice, just maybe placed in the wrong scenes.
overall, i really hope the cast and production team grow from this. the potential is there—just needs sharper writing, better execution, and characters with stronger presence.
i think that with her upcoming dramas her popularity is going to rise !
tbh i don’t really know about her other upcoming dramas yet, but i just watched the trailer for long gu fen xiang that was recently released and it actually looks so good. hopefully all of her upcoming dramas do well and jiejie finally gets the recognition she deserves 🤍
age is probably the factor here. most chinese drama audiences prefer younger actresses but this is just my guess.…
i don’t think it’s because of age. jing tian doesn’t look old at all, i was actually surprised when i found out she’s already 37. she doesn’t even look close to 40, more like she’s still under 30. there are also many actors and actresses in their 30s who are still really popular. i just find it surprising that someone this beautiful isn’t more recognized....
why is she so underrated? i think her acting isn’t bad at all and she’s actually so beautiful, but i rarely see anyone talking about her or appreciating her work 😭
I too feel the same she is so selfish and only cares about 'vengeance', she doesn't care about the people of tanhua…
exactly. she acts like she’s some unstoppable force, when in reality, she just keeps getting bailed out by the plot. she doesn’t think, doesn’t plan, and somehow still expects to win just because she’s mad. she keeps putting everyone in danger and never once takes responsibility. it’s actually wild that she still thinks she’s in the right. if she weren’t the main character, she would’ve been dead the first time she ran into qiu yunhai. there’s no way she’d survive half the stuff she throws herself into 🙂↔️🙂↕️
i don’t like mei chaofeng. not because i’m hating for no reason, but because her actions don’t make sense. she’s the main character but she keeps rushing into fights with no real plan. she doesn’t stop to think about her own strength or whether she’s actually ready. every time she powers up just a little, she immediately wants to go after qiu yunhai like that’s all there is
what’s worse is she acts like her enemies are just gonna stay weak forever. she never considers that they might grow stronger too. revenge isn’t something that has to be rushed. as long as your enemy’s still alive, you’ve still got time. especially with someone like qiu yunhai, who clearly isn’t easy to kill. if she really wanted to take him down, she should’ve been more careful instead of just charging in
and honestly she doesn’t care about the people around her either. her master is sick, his wife isn’t doing well, and they keep getting dragged into her mess. same with her fellow disciples. they all end up taking care of her after she gets hurt again and again. it’s draining to watch and just makes her character feel selfish
i started watching nine yin true sutra because i was curious about meng ziyi and he yu’s chemistry. and yeah, the acting is really solid. but mei chaofeng’s character just made it hard for me to enjoy the story. i stopped at episode 5. i think i’ll just watch meng ziyi and he yu in blossoms of power instead 😭
so it’s actually a harem? i kept trying to figure it out each episode but stayed in denial... turns out it really…
yeah i get that the show’s not fully about romance and it’s more about his journey and power leveling. but still, romance is there. and honestly, if it’s just with jiang yun, i’m cool with that. what really bothers me is all those other women circling around him like moths 😭 and seeing them on the mdl cover too?? now i can’t help but wonder if jiang yun’s gonna end up sharing him 😭
😭 my exact feelings, only on episode 9 but it's crazy how li yan hasn't been caught yet. He never hides any…
right?? i keep wondering how he expects to succeed when he's that emotional all the time. he's been dropping hints since day one, and none of them are subtle. it's honestly hard to believe no one around him notices 😭
i'm not really a fan of li yan's character. he feels too impulsive sometimes, which surprises me since he's the main character. usually in revenge stories like this, the main character tends to hold back their emotions to carry out the plan more perfectly. but li yan gets emotional quite often, which makes me curious about how his strategy will work out. from the start, he's already shown a lot of signs that he's li yan, and his emotions are quite obvious. it makes me wonder how he plans to succeed if he doesn't strategize carefully. don't you think it's better to think things through before taking action, li yan?
anyway, i think the actors did a pretty good job overall. i just find the characters of xiaoxi and li yan a bit childish at times 😭 but other than that, the characters are okay. i especially like aunt qing's character—she really gives off a smart and sharp vibe 🔥 and yes, the actors are visually pleasant to watch too, which i appreciate 👍🏻 btw, i thought with such a cold expression, li yan would be a master strategist with a strong poker face. turns out he's not, which was a bit unexpected for me 😔
so i came back here again, is there any update on when this will air??? i’m dying of boredom waiting for this drama, i miss my gege in costume dramas so much 😭😭😭😭
I totally agree with you, because when I first saw her in A Dream like the True Love, I also thought, “Is this…
Absolutely! They really do look like male and female versions of each other 😍 It would be so fun to see them act together as siblings—I'm so curious what their dynamic would be like on screen :D
