the family depicted here reminds me of the roy family from succession. i wonder if the writer of reborn rich was also inspired by king lear like the succession writers were.
if you all enjoyed the acting of kim shin rok as jin hwa young, then you should check out her other drama, beyond evil, where she plays a badass detective!! one of my favorite dramas :)
I’m really looking forward to this!! I just hope that they won’t make it so that Siwan’s character slowly loses his stutter. I hope his character has it for the entirety of the show and that they won’t make it seem like having a stutter is something that naturally gets corrected over time as people become more out-going or whatever
i have yet to watch this but i do see that this has been adapted from american psycho (the novel). american psycho (the movie) was pretty graphic & had a lot of sex scenes (which is fine, it made sense for the movie) but i guess i’m just curious whether or not it’s the same for this particular drama??
This story has been really interesting to me so far because I feel like we often see the impoverished portrayed as noble, saintly human beings who can do no wrong while here we are offered a more nuanced depiction of a poor family that are just doing whatever it takes to survive, even if that means becoming a selfish sell-out, or a thief, or embarrassing one’s self. The morally-grey Oh sisters are obviously different from the March sisters in how the two families deal with their lack of wealth, but I think each depiction is fine and suits each of their respective stories. Obviously, ‘eat the rich’ type of stories are entertaining and I welcome them gladly, but the battle between the poor and the rich doesn’t necessarily always translate into good versus evil, so I’m perfectly fine with all the morally questionable decisions the Oh sisters are making, even though they can be frustrating to watch. I hope they get to keep all their money but I feel like it won’t be a happy ending, because much like what we saw in Parasite and Squid Game, it is quite difficult to increase one’s wealth and class when you live in a capitalistic society.
the poster is very interesting. kind of reminds me of the saying 'hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil' since eunji's thumb is placed over taec's right ear (hear no evil...kinda) and his eyes a little ('see no evil' and also the title itself 'blind' could be linked to that.) and then someone's hand (seokjin's hand? position is weird) is wrapped around taec's throat (affecting his speech, resulting in 'speak no evil.' eunji's hand covers a little bit of taec's mouth as well).
I keep going back to an idea that was first introduced in one of the earlier episodes: the idea that those who are closest to us are are also the ones who could easily betray us the most. In a strictly storytelling sense, we as audience members are the ones who are closest to PCH since we (occasionally) have access to his inner thoughts and because we are able to follow him in his day-to-day life in prison (after all, it is his story that we are engaging with every Friday & Saturday). I’m expecting PCH to mess with and/or manipulate the viewers in some way to help get us on his side, or at least to stop suspecting him . (He’s already giving off major unreliable narrator vibes, too, though, so who’s to even say that he’s not using his own inner thoughts to lie to us as well.) Still not 100% certain if he’s Big Mouse or not but regardless I’m still going to prepare myself for some kind of big reveal/betrayal that will surely affect the audience more than anyone else.
people who are wondering if they'll ever reveal santa's identity low-key missed a major point of the show...one of the major conflicts that kyung-ki faced in her past was that she doubted her husband and suspected him of murdering that high school student, which is why he killed himself...by choosing to trust santa and accepting the fact that he was truly there to help her and cares for her, she was able to develop as a character and as a person. it is unconditional love and trust. we can also this in one of the last episodes in which the group reunites and have a giant group hug in 'santa's village' while k watches them from a cop car because she ultimately made the wrong choice (see: killing others in the name of love and justice). like yeah it's not very realistic and yeah i'm just as curious about santa's identity as the rest of y'all but thematically it's really important that we don't learn of it. anyway, santa and the rest of team b are all so very cute and must be protected at all costs <333 i cried so much while watching this, the found family aspect really got to me. also it was so gay i simply cannot believe.
