Akihiko has a very trouble and toxic relationship with Ugetsu that you understand by volume 4 of the manga (the series only adapted the 1st one) and he used to prostitute himself too.
Mafuyu's friend was a lil out of place for me here, but he's there just cause he felt guilty for not helping Mafuyu and Yuki.

You're talking as if BL is a pure genre, but it's a DEMOGRAPHIC that works as a genre.

First of all, there's MLM in ALL demographics in Japan: Kinou Nani Tabeta is a seinen manga, A Man Who Defies the World of BL is a josei manga, Kieta Hatsukoi is a Shoujo manga (if you read it, you would understand why it's not a BL, Hashimoto is a main charather and her romance with Akkun is as important as Aoki and Ida's), Banana Fish is also a shoujo manga and there's a whole demographic by and for gay man: Gay Manga/ Geicomi

If westerns are narrow minded to think that shoujo is only teen BG romance, that's on their ignorance. You can say: this is a shoujo manga with a gay romance, it's simple like that.

BL IS NOT synonym for mlm in asian media, even though some people use it. It's a demographic with it's rules that if you take it to use on other media, people might get disapointed cause they recieved a "BL promotion" for something that lacked what BL fans want.

Yaoi and shounen ai are arcaic terms for Boys Love that only westerns use. All of them mean the same thing in Japan and specially shounen ai is almost never used. To be a BL the manga needs to be published in a BL magazine or be indexed online as one.

Given is BL, it's published in a BL magazine. Sasaki to Miyano is not BL, it's a shoujo manga (so is Kieta Hatsukoi).

Shounen ai is a western classification that doesn't exist in Japan.

People calling this BL is so misleading. Besides being based on a shoujo and not a BL manga, the story is a very good study about young love (in all configurations) and identity.

Strictly saying, it's not. It's from a shoujo manga, but it features feelings between boys.

Less intimate but why have the side couple kiss and not the main couple? We all know it was one of their agencies (or maybe one of the actors themselves), it’s been said all over Japanese Twitter since before the no kissing end. You can delude yourself, but you know the truth! All the interview with producers and scriptwriters were vague about this! And now we have a MOVIE (which is not shown on TV) without a kiss with a less romantic rollout than ever.

There has been plenty of BL series in multiple TV Stations WITH kissing scenes, Ossans love was so much bigger than CM and had multiple kisses! Cherry Magic (which was a 1AM show BTW) featured one on their side couple!
