When I talk about ratings, I’m talking about TV ratings (aka audience, general audience), not user base ratings like MDL.
To Sir almost didn’t appeal to international audiences due to its themes/ambientation. Only Chinese audience were interested at first (and they don’t use YouTube). The promotion of To Sir was entirely focused in Thailand, while BL series tend to promote actively in English. It was a domestic success (with over 400k tweets with only Thai audience, most GMMTV lately struggle to beat this despite having international fans to trend). ONE has switched their focus of rerun from YouTube to OneD app on the later part of 2022, what can justify why their dramas has less YouTube views lately.

GMM25 average rating is very low. 2gether was a HUGE success and it’s highest was 0.7. PS I Hate You and My Dear Donovan were the GMMTV’s tightest rated dramas last year, having 0.3 on its highest.
CH3 and ONE have similar ratings for their prime time lakorns (despite One having performed better lately). A huge lakorn may score 3.0-4 ratings. To Sir With Love wasn’t one of the best ratings of ONE last year, but compared to any other series with a gay main lead it was the biggest rating wise (Love Proposal also had 2.0 ratings). But To Sir With Love was the most streamed series in OneD, the streaming app of the company and the most talked series by One enterprise last year.
I wish this was more serious /mature like other Jojo’s works. Yeah I get he tried to make it more teen-ish to be more appealing to BL fans, but this whole poor guy x rich heir asked for a more mature tone. Coming of Khun Chai I can’t help comparing the development of both couples.
But overall I’m enjoying it a lot. I just wish we had more ambiguity, not so clear they already will be endgame and more development of Nueng and Ben relationship.

A BL series will be promoted as one (and the company will be VERY explicit on its press releases and promotions, usually with a fixed ship promoting non stop). A series that pleases BL fandom IS NOT THE SAME as a BL series. A BL series HAS to have a MLM main couple (and even with that, it may not be a BL series, just check Khun Chai). A gay side couple is just that, a SIDE COUPLE.
Warp Effect, like most Jojo’s work has a lot of queer characthers, that’s his style. But this is NOT a BL drama. He himself has said multiple times his first BL drama is NLMG.
Just check the opening of The Warp Effect. New is paired with Fah, while Fluke is paired with the coach guy. Even if they hook up and end up together, it won’t make this a BL drama just like 3 will be free, the player and Friend Zone aren’t BL dramas (the director himself says this). There’s NO MENTION in ANY oficial promotional material of this being a BL drama. If you ask Darapa (I’ve talking to them before) if this series will pleases BL fans, it’s obvious they will say yes. But again, this doesn’t make this series a BL drama.

About 3: Not Me and Bad Buddy are GMM25 series (not lakorns). GMM25 is a very small channel. They are marketed to younger generations and have very crappy TV ratings (Not Me struggled to get 0.1, Bad Buddy had 0.2 average rating), so the general audience doesn’t watch these series. Being a “series”, it has a more toned down acting and more “international” editing.
The Miracle of Teddy Bear was a lakorn (hence the over the top villains), the first prime time BL lakorn, but also failed to attract audience. Despite the aim of 2.0 ratings, it struggled to do 1.0 and was considered a huge flop. It suffered from a huge boycott from the traditional audience of the channel and a lot of complains about its content were made even before airing.
ONE is now a days the second most watched channel in Thailand and To Sir With Love had 2.4 ratings and the highest engagement for any original program by ONE Enterprise this year. So it was successful in attracting the traditional lakorn audience to a gay romance. While overdone in BLs, a positive representation of a gay protagonist in lakorns is VERY rare. Prior this year One themselves had another gay protagonist in The Love Proposal, who was miserable the whole series and got killed before the finale.
It’s not cause BL is popular that general audiences likes gay storylines. So the way homophobia was approached in this series was something new, at least in terms of success.
