As an Air Force veteran of 22 years myself, I think this is a good thing for both him and his country. I believe he will see it as his duty and his honor. It may also have benefits to his showbusiness career. He may see other parts of the country, and meet other types of people outside the showbusiness bubble that he may have not have met otherwise. He could use that exposure to help better himself relate to future roles.
