This was the first xianxia i have watched, and it was during the pandemic. I remember I couldn’t just put this down and when I finished, it lingered in my heart for a long time. The chemistry was good, and the angst of this drama was deliciously done. I got annoyed, irritated, I wanted to pull my hair off because of the level of misunderstanding and conflicts in this drama. The tension and the pain was real to me (I almost wanted to drop it) but I wanted to see how everything will fall to its place even if that took a really long time. It just had its sort of magic that did work for me!
Yes I have watched so many xianxias over the years, and as time pass, there are more works that have surpassed AoL when in comes to writing, plot and characterization. Better CG, aesthetics, and visuals. But I just couldn’t get the same level of feels and attachment again. I do enjoy them, but move on immediately when it’s over. I know impact of a drama are subjective to viewers. But I hope someone can bring out again the kind of “magic” that classic xianxias have.
oh my gosh i like jerome deng! you should try his short drama “tower of whispers” on iqiyi. he looks so good there! i just recently discovered him so i was really hyped to know he had a role here
On episode 4, loving this so far. Please give me a heads up if there will be big misunderstanding here between the main leads causing them to k word or hurt each other. This is a very common trope in xianxia so I want to prepare my poor heart.

I thought of doctor ling. I hope I am wrong. Maybe that also explains why some of us are irritated to his doctor daughter (She’s unnecesarily nosey around FYX)
Doctor Ling also visits the emperor annually. And there were theories of the emperor being poisoned (his health deteriorating and coughing blood). If it was the empress, he would have already alerted FSG about this considering that he sees him every year and would have detected if something was wrong with his health. Also remember the “place” where no one is allowed to leave? It was old doctor Ling who knew and suggested such place. I think there’s more reason to why such rule is made— maybe as a part of that “big plan” against Susha.
If XJS is the owner of the death camp, shouldn’t he be much older now? Because FYX was taken as a kid, right? Assuming that FYX and XJS are just the same age (as it seems to be), how come that a child is responsible for owning that camp. Unless he had a predecessor and he just assumed being the leader later on.

I hope there’s some important reason that can justify it. They should have just gotten another actor to play that. Because it might affect the viewers’ image of yingyuan/tangzhou x yandan romance arc.
His agency took this opportunity to let him show his range as an actor, thus having multiple characters. Perhaps he will draw a strong distinction line that will make us not care about the plothole.
Is there any significance why yingyuan’s father have the same face as him? I find it a bit weird especially he will have a romance arc with his wife and thinking yingyuan has the same face…
In addition to the comment below about Yandan jumping off the Bridge of Emptiness, aside from she wanted to run away or escape, I think she jumped off because no one believes that it was not her fault. Not even Ying Yuan. I mean he could probably know, but his priority of protecting the realms come first. So he had to let her experience such pain and suffering.
And on top of receiving all the blame, she also thought that her love can never be reciprocated. Recall what Yan Dan said in the teaser:
“He told me that he had to put the world on his back. His heart had no place for anything else.”
And then his POV goes:
“I’ve been having a single dream repeatedly. In my dream is a girl with her back to me. I can not see her face. Every time I wake up, my heart hurts unbearably.”
So in their reincarnation, he will make up for his mistakes and will be the one chasing her instead.
