4 eps in and she keeps making things unnecessarily harder for herself.
Like I'm ALL for a morally grey or even evil FL, but she's just not a well realized character. She's doing these things in the most "sociopathic" way to make an impact on the audience, but it makes no sense when there are much simpler ways to achieve her goals. She can be morally bankrupt and still be smart. The writing is just not there. So it's frustrating.
Watching this for the first time years after the hype, at first I kinda got it. It starts off really fresh in terms of characters and dynamics. The depiction of mental health, mental disorders, personality disorders, etc was a bit shaky at first but it evened out after an ep or 2. And the focus on finding balance was cool. Not trying to suppress or change who you are, but work with the hand you've been dealt.
As it went on I did notice a worrying pattern of the FL getting physically assaulted over and over with no one (they're surrounded by hospital workers) ever checking on her well-being. This chck has been strangled, hit, punched, hair pulled, etc and all anyone ever seems to care about is #1 being upset if she or anyone else fought back or #2 concern for the people that attacked HER. It was really weird. and never got addressed or resolved.
Then things really fell off in the final act. Which is common for kdramas, but it was especially disappointing here. As soon as the "twists" came in episode 12 it was pretty much all downhill. All that focus on balance and working through your issues sorta got thrown out and replaced with the standard/generic bad guy who needs to be defeated. And our FL who was so unique gets changed by the "power or love" I guess and turns into a pretty standard female drama lead. Her edges have all been sanded down to be a more comfortable/familiar romance heroine.
I really quite liked the first 2/3 or so of this show, but by the end I was mostly frustrated and mourning what could have been.
