Honestly I was thinking his mother did something extremely evil based on some of the comments and come to find…
I don't understand her criticism. We got the Emperors POV and yet to understand Wei Qingyu(?) POV. She fought alongside him and must have had the same ideals and hopes for the new kingdom but seeing him "change" or actually reveal his true face when in power, she couldnt reconcile the man she fought with, loved and had a family with, with this Emperor in front of her. So being a mother (and a warrior) she wanted to protect her children. How is she to blame? Anyway, im looking forward to learning more about her and her Storm Alliance. She loved her children and didnt want them caged and used as tools for power. Was she naive? Maybe. Let's not make her a villain.
Am I the only one who appreciates the "flimsy", "petty" villain backstories? Most villains are just that...greedy, jealous and have a desire or lust for power. The why not me mentality, why him? Be it Murong or Zhuang they could have been the founding Emperor (having fought alongside) so why Feng? Why is he the chosen one? Their excuses are just that excuses 🙄 to mask the ugliness and darkness that is in all. Maybe the writing could have given their motivations more depth but looking at it, do we need it? Have we not seen through their flimsy sob stories (masks) and seen the true face of greed and want of power? I'm loving this drama so much!
Also, my heart aches for Feng Suige too.

Why am I crying? That scene was the best for me.
