There tends to be over exaggeration of issues, e.g. the preoccupation with owning land, extreme poverty, filial piety or the whole business of marriage. Even though these were central themes of the story line. What was highly commendable were the characterization of these issues. The acting, especially by Yang Mi, Chi Peng and Xing Fei, were excellent.

There is enough in the story to keep viewers eagerly anticipating the next episode. Details may be stunning yet lacking, e.g. the extravagant wedding yet in both the Ning and Fei mansions, there is a paucity of staff in detailing the rich lifestyle. Poverty is everywhere yet the poor are somehow made up looking poor but lack the actual dirt.

Overall the entire drama is engaging with superb acting.
