Seeing as what she has done to other people, she's far from being ruthless when it comes to him. I know he did nothing to harm her but doesn't mean the lie is okay. Esp, if you save me and don't own up to the truth, what did you save me for? Xihe, even if she lied to the King and the other Princes about loving the Crown Prince, she laid all of her cards on the table when it came to talking to the Crown Prince. She didn't lie to him about loving him, she didn't make any promises, She was her honest and true self. She wants a partnership/marriage and that can't be based on lies, even if you were doing a good thing. And being cold to someone who is warm to her doesn't make her a bitch. She's cold, not heartless. She's polite to him, she allows him to take small liberties, she was far more open with him than most other princes, she just didn't return his romantic feelings but she was rude or mean or dismissive.
she's not a bitch, she's sure about what she wants. honesty is one of those things. it doesn't matter how much the crown prince is in love with her if he can't be honest with her. she doesnt want love, she told him straight up, she wants a partner that will help her protect the north west. its great that he saved her but its not great that he kept it from her. even after she was open and honest about herself, how could she trust him if he lies so easily? why is she a bitch for staying true to herself? and being honest about it
gonna post my full thoughts overall bc i just watched eps 1-8
they're staying pretty true to the novel, which brings me to the first thing. the pacing is quick. it seems they want to get as much of the novel as possible but only have 36 eps, so maybe they will slow down. that being said, getting thrown into the story is just how the novel starts. we read lady gu ending her life, next chapter the souls are merging. it does seem like lady gu personality is dominant even though the two merged. but the novel just continues on with the present and we dont look too closely at the background of either.
the drama is leaning more slice of life / comedy, the most amazing thing? no but its a fun and simple watch
i also enjoy how they've managed to weave things together. like the doctor, in the novel im pretty sure was introduce to the crown prince through xihe but having them in the novel takes out needing to spend time on going through that arc, just a few things have been woven together or cut down to just the needed characters
characters:
the princes but crown prince - im impressed with what they did with them so far. esp changqing. shout out to royal rumors otp.
crown prince - honestly copy for copy, he's over the moon and down bad for xihe as he is in the novel
shu lin and jin bai - my second otp in the making, i cant wait for the future with them, ya'll will see what i mean
xihe - off the bat, if you dont like a mary sue lead....i'd stop watching. xihe succeeds no matter what. she is op and rarely gets anything wrong. what she doesn't know, the crown prince will let her know. i'd say the biggest arc for her would be learning to love. romantic love. also if you think xihe is cold... she's colder in the novel. some examples, the scene with the cat was NOT as wholesome in the novel. she rarely jokes and smiles and etc as she does with shulin. she was way nicer and more understanding towards her half-sister than she is in the novel. so i do enjoy those changes.
overall, im having a good time and im about to watch ep 9!
Some people here claim to be the novel reader, yet act pissed about the second trailer. Have you really read the…
Only person did anything close to complaining and it wasn’t even a big deal. I didn’t say the novel was bad or did I say they needed be dumbed down. I just commented that it wasn’t the most exciting novel of the leads have no stakes. And even then, I said that wouldnt have been an issue if the novel was shorter. The novel ‘Deng Hua Xiao’ also has female lead whose schemes and plots always succeed but it’s a short read so that part doesn’t become as noticeable or stale. The person complaining (me) also didn’t complain about the ml personality or the fl personality. A strong & smart female lead occasionally not succeeding doesn’t make it dumb or useless. It’s makes a complex character that can have flaws, still be amazing and you root for her even more to succeed.
Also, if people (even if they’re novel readers) liked the darker vibe more than the comedic one, that’s okay. I, personally, love the fact that they might lead into comedy but it’s okay if people are like, eh, that’s not what I wanted.
i'm on chapter 635 of novel, i wanted to know, does the character have any stakes? or does anything interesting…
I don't think it's a bad novel, I was just wondering if anything interesting happened that actually gave the characters stakes. I'm never worried about anything that happens and there is no rush or suspense because I figure it'll be good at the end. I also don't believe that if plans encounter hitches and doesn't go smoothly, that means someone is dumb. Life happens and things can wrong, and it doesn't have to permanently wrong but I think hiccups can happen without a character being dumb. I mean, there is a foil to being overly intelligent and over confident. I made it half-way through the novel which shows I had interest, it just felt like a repeating plot after 635 chapters, but doesn't mean I don't value the plot, I enjoy both the leads, I found some parts very funny and I enjoy the thought and work put into the world-building in the side characters. I didn't really comment on the ml personality or character type. I just said that there were some boundaries I liked for the fl lead that I felt like could've been kept without her giving into the ml whining. But that doesn't mean I have an issue with the ml as a character. I also didn't say it wasn't good enough for me because I don't think boring at point = bad. I just wanted to know if after the point I stated, do more interesting things happen, do the characters get into things that will have me actually worried about the out-come and rooting for them to win or is it just every time they plot, it turns out flawlessly without stakes and does more character growth happen (like with the sisters for example but really the dad and the brother). I think people can appreciate a work but still have thoughts/criticisms. thank you for the reply.
i really enjoyed the comedic vibes of the second trailer, id be happy if the drama leaned more into comedy. where i am now, the novel bores me and im struggling to finish. i dont like way the fl gives into the whininess of the ml at times in the novel. everything goes perfectly as planned (so far) so it feels like a repeating plot, it does have funny moments and if they highlighted that more, i'd be down
People here who are having second thoughts after watching the second trailer. I assure you, this isn't a typical…
i'm on chapter 635 of novel, i wanted to know, does the character have any stakes? or does anything interesting happen? mainly, im struggling bc it's getting boring for me? like, its rinse and repeat, shen xihe, wants do something, it goes off perfectly without a hitch and just happens over and over. and while thats not an issue if the novel was shorter, im really forcing myself to care. there is some character growth but only in romance and i actually dislike how, she's drawn a line on somethings but the ml still gets his way if he pouts enough. its just a struggle
So I wonder what they will do to make the show more interesting. I’m around chapter 600 something of the novel and it feels like a lot to get through. It doesn’t feel like there are any stakes in the novel. She constantly wins. Which is cool, if it was a shorter novel but it’s been like 600 + of the same cycle.
I didn’t know where else to ask but does anyone have any novel historical novel recs that don’t have transmigration or rebirth, I’m fine with if it’s a second life but I don’t want reborn into another person’s body.
I read a novel a while back, the main characters name was Lu Tong, I’d like something like that
