Now when you said it, I thought that gesun indeed were shown in drama a bit like a BL couple 😀 I mean, all…
girl it's always about words with you isn't it? There are different ways to show love. is it that hard for you to understand the details if they're not spoken out or shown to you? A'Sun and Chang Ge have a relationship where their actions speak louder than words. Words don't mean anything, it's actions that truly show what love is. and I'm not just saying actions as in just physical touch, because that might as well could just be sexual/physical attraction. the actions I'm talking about are the little things that two people in love do for each other.

A'Sun once said that he understands that Chang Ge likes to be free and likes to do things her way, and he's willing to support her in whatever she does, however, he only asks that she allows him to accompany her to share her burdens and to protect her. and one can see that he does just that. he doesn't hold her back. this is just one of the many things he does for her. for Chang Ge, in order to protect A'Sun, whenever she rushes into one of her crazy, desperate plans, she always makes sure to not get either Sun or the Eagle Division involved.

it's no wonder why you prefer Haoyan, since their relationship was basically all laid out on a silver platter for you. Leyan says she's always loved Hao Du, oh great you believe it. she says that she realizes that she never really liked Shuyu, oh wow you believe that too. and now Haoyan are together and they have so much physical touch, wow they look so lovey dovey, they must be in love!

I also read that gesun and haoyan relationships in drama were very different, even contrasting each other... Well,…
ever since ep 3, you can see that Chang Ge was physically attracted to A'Sun just by his looks and close proximity to her alone. she took a while longer than him to sort out her feelings for him and accept those feelings, but they were clearly visible through out the episodes. we know she is fond of him, and from just her gaze we know she definitely has some feelings for him. she herself just doesn't have time to think about all of that since she is literally focused on her revenge, Tang, and trying to survive.

chang ge's character is supposed to be a tomboy, she's 15, and has dealt with a great deal of suffering. she has never experienced love or feelings for a boy before so it's all new to her. she's naturally awkward. but despite her awkwardness we can see her physical attraction to A'Sun from the way she looks at him, to stuttering at times when they talk, or like when she put on perfume to smell nice for him. all of these are signs of her physical attraction towards him. everything you listed for Haoyan were after their fight scenes. what you described was physical touch and not attraction. of course at this point they are already together so its natural to show physical attraction/touch. but its odd because it hasn't been long since she had gotten over her crush and obvious physical attraction for Shuyu. hence my argument about their relationship being too abrupt.

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
I read some people see it as if Leyan fell for Hao Du because he rescued her, out of gratitude. And that's weird…
yes, song falcon I agree with all that you said. my thoughts exactly and what I'm trying to prove. my biggest problem had always been about how abruptly Leyan fell for Hao Du. it just didn't seem realistic. like how can move on from one person so quickly? it would made sense if she chose Hao Du but still showed that she still had some lingering feelings for Shuyu, or if it was shown that she was already over Shuyu by the time of the fight. Yet up until the very last moment, she still was hoping for Shuyu to fight her. Even during the fight Hao Du himself thought that it wasn't his place to fight for her after seeing Shuyu. It's because he's not aware that she likes him, which she doesn't. all her actions towards him before are only that you see of how she treats a friend not someone who she has feelings for.

A'Sun didn't abruptly fall for Chang Ge just like Leyan did. He was already fond of her and admired her before he knew she was a man. I'm sure that even if he didn't find out that she was a girl, he still would've developed a crush on her and wonder why he is crushing on a man. thankfully the writers didn't drag it out, and resolved that really quickly. But A'Sun's feelings for Chang Ge was not abrupt but moved at a great pace. She is different from every other woman he has ever met, before that he was already fond of her, after finding out she was a girl, his feelings developed into romantic ones.

Welcome to the party! There are a lot of new people here recently. Enjoy.
oh I know how you feel! when I was lurking on here I also saw comments that I absolutely disagreed with, like how emotionless Chang Ge's character was or stupid ones like how Leo and Raba don't have chemistry because of their age gap. are you a long time member? or did you also join MDL this year?

I read some people see it as if Leyan fell for Hao Du because he rescued her, out of gratitude. And that's weird…
i’m just pointing out the obvious flaws in your argument. i’m saying that Leyan’s feelings for Hao Du felt abrupt and it seems like she only fell for him after the fight. in your original argument, you discussed her feelings for Hao Du during and after the fight, which supports my point that she had only fell for him once he came to save her.

you said she had bad feelings about the competition but this is not because she feared someone was gonna get hurt, her biggest concern was that she would have to marry Sher’er, and that Shuyu won’t fight for her.

onto the main point. my argument isn’t how she fell for him but how abrupt it all is. again i’d like to state that before Hao Du stepped into that arena, Leyan didn’t even spare him a second thought. it was always Shuyu for her. her relationship with Hao Du before the fight seems more one sided. she treated him as a friend while he has feelings for her. but then suddenly after Hao Du almost dies fighting for her, she forgot about her feelings for Shuyu, and accepted her feelings for Hao Du with open arms. it’s puzzling. cause her feelings literally changed so quickly.

to answer your question, yes you can develop feelings for your friend, but it didn’t align with her feelings from before the fight.

your second question, why should it be out of guilt or gratitude? exactly, it doesn’t have to be, it could be a combination of all of the points we made, guilt, gratitude, fear of losing him. but again the main argument, she fell for him too abruptly. your argument that she fell for him out of fear of losing him would make sense, and that is exactly what the writers intended, Leyan said it herself, but what i’m trying to say is that it was out of place and too abrupt. the story doesn’t align with what Leyan was saying. actions speak louder than words.

the writers didn’t develop Haoyan’s relationship enough. again i’d like to add that before ep 42, Leyan didn’t seem to have feelings or seem physically attracted to Hao Du in anyway. so when she finally fell for him after the fight scene, it made more sense that she fell for him out of gratitude rather than fear of losing him.

it’s not really romantic signals that i need from her cause of course flirting with two guys wouldn’t be right for her to do. but what i need was to see the internal conflict. like head vs heart kind of thing. her head is telling her that she likes Shuyu, that he has always been the one she likes, but why does she feel these things for Hao Du? there wasn’t any of that.

you mentioned that before ep 42, there are scenes that we can see that Leyan likes Hao Du, but i can’t recall any of those scenes. there are potential scenes where that can be seen, however they fall short, and Leyan either just looks shocked by his actions or is taken aback by them. the comfortable ness that Leyan shared with Hao Du could also be considered one that is shared with between friends. the relationship and trust she has with Hao Du can again be compared to her relationship with Chang Ge. there is not one moment where it seems like she was physically attracted to Hao Du. with Chang Ge, it is clearly visible that she was always attracted to A’Sun.

well yeah, Hao Du is also someone she considers as her friend so of course she wouldn’t just feel guilt. Im saying that’s probably the main emotion that she felt to see him fight for her out of duty. and her crying over his form like that can also be interpreted as crying over a dear friend, like I can totally picture her crying over Chang Ge’s figure like this if Chang Ge were in this position. guilt is a strong emotion. If someone almost died for you of course you’d be bawling your eyes out. I would, and Leyan is even more soft hearted than I am, so of course her character would cry this hard. again Hao Du is also someone she cherishes so her feelings of guilt and pain is more intensified.

this actually reminds me, she also cried this hard when Xiao Wu died because she also felt guilty towards him. she felt useless that she couldn't do more to help him as he was dying. these two situations can be compared. so just because she cried over him doesn't necessarily means that she loves him romantically, she could just as well love him as a brother or a friend.

I also read that gesun and haoyan relationships in drama were very different, even contrasting each other... Well,…
I have to disagree with you on this one. even before Mujin told Chang Ge about A'Sun true intentions, we can already see that she was already attracted and had grown a liking for A'Sun even before the Shuozhou arc. Her feelings for him were only buried with hatred after finding put that he was Ashile Sun. She didn't really change her mind because she already suspected that everything he says doesn't align with his actions, Mujin only confirmed her suspicions. From the start there were signs that Chang Ge had developed feelings for A'Sun, she just took more time to understand and accept them because she was more focused on her revenge, saving Tang, and trying to survive.

Chang Ge confessed after A'Sun was injured, but we can also clearly see that she was slowly but surely already returning his affections earlier on after they were reunited. We can see that Sun was the only person on her mind when she went missing. After they were reunited, she began to return his affections but at her own pace because she was still coming to an understanding and acceptance of her feelings. Her actions show that she already accepted her feelings for A'Sun, however, she only verbally says them out loud and admitted them to him after he was unconscious.

Leyan warmed up to Hao Du as a friend after he found her but only changed her mind and fell for him after the fight scene.

hi there, I'm new here, but your comment intrigued me to want to respond. I have recently finished watching the drama, so it is still fresh on my mind. I had enjoyed haoyan's relationship and thought they were cute together, however, it doesn't cloud my judgment and I can see that there are some obvious flaws in their relationship.

the first one being that she gave no second thought to Hao Du until after he fought for her in that competition. for Leyan, Shuyu has always been the one in her heart. the fear that Leyan felt could be interpreted as the fear of losing someone she cares about, and also out of guilt. at this point we know that she isn't aware of Hao Du's feelings for her, and we know this because of their conversation after the fight. the fear she felt was due to guilt because she was afraid someone who doesn't have any feelings for her might lose his life in order to carry out his duty to her father and Great Tang. I believe this is why she scolded him, because she didn't think it was right for him to risk his life just out of duty.

as for Shuyu, she asked him because she believes him, because she holds him on a high pedestal and believes that he would win, which is why she has no fear. she was confident that he would win. she also has feelings for him which is why since the beginning she has wanted him to fight for her.

of course after the fight, she started to fall for him because he saved her and he also found out that he has feelings for her which is better than what Shuyu had offered her so she chose Hao Du in the end. I believe that if she didn't know of Shuyu's true feelings and both Hao Du and Shuyu had showed up at the same time to fight for her, she would've chosen Shuyu.

my favorite thing about this drama would have to be it's cast and the characters they play. everyone was a perfect fit for their characters!! I am still blown away by Dilraba and Leo's acting in their respective roles. I've also become a fan of Liu Yuning, his acting is great in this role. I don't think I've ever rooted so much for a FL and ML. in the past I've rooted for either one or the other, but this time I root for them both equally whether individually or apart!

my favorite character is of course Chang Ge. her character was so complex and had so many layers that I couldn't find myself hating her in any point of the story.

I wholeheartedly agree. as much as I enjoyed the romance in here since it portrays such a mature and healthy relationship, I like the fact that romance wasn't the main plot. usually dramas that are heavy on romance tend to get boring and repetitive, or would sometimes end up taking the spotlight from the character's individual growth in order to fit it into the romance narrative.

however, here I liked how there was a great balance between the plot and the romance. the plot was mainly centered around Chang Ge, which was exactly what I came here for. I decided to watch this drama because I wanted to follow her journey, and that is exactly what I got. along the way I've fallen for other characters especially the perfect man Ashile Sun and the charming Situ Lang Lang.

there are dramas that I've watched in the past where it is said that the story would be focused on the FL, but either the ML ends up taking the spotlight, or the FL has to share the spotlight with ML. TLB didn't do that at all!

I have been hooked since episode 1!! there isn't a single episode where I have felt the need to skip or feel bored! the animated drawings took a while to get used to because they were funny at first, but eventually they grew on me lol
