so far, it's been pretty close to the plot. The last two episodes were straight out of novel. Biggest chance (for me) is the added screentime of second lead, he wasn't that much in the novel. Also fake ziyuan was there, but didn't appear much.

I agree with you 100% i think people are upset that CP and Anle don't have a lot of scenes together compared to first ten eps. Plus, the tone of the drama started to change from funny vibe (this was never a romcom by the way) to a more serious and angsty one. Anyway, the development of side characters is important to the overall story. People need to allow this to happen in order to enjoy the drama's twist and turns in the next eps.

it's rather because of GeminiFourth's very packed schedule and upcoming concert than anything else. If they weren't so popular, they'd probably still be attached to the project on the secondary roles.
