Article A Male's Perspective: The Significance of Gender
It seems OP is from Australia, a country I am not too familiar with their entertainment. I am from the USA and here the media is skewed from the male perspective. Entertainment with equality is rare and almost never made expressly for the female audience. The USA shows women are 'supposed' to like, I find most incredibly boring. I started watching Anime in the late 90's and 'discovered' dramas in 2005. I was overjoyed, to finally get some entertainment that felt tailor-made to my tastes. Dramas suffer from their own tropes but many are very good, regardless of gender. In my country there is a lot of pressure on men to be "manly" and discouraged from enjoying any romance or human drama. Once that is out of the way, every male I've introduced to dramas has liked them. I bet it feels weird for a man when he realizes he's not being specifically catered to. I feel that way 99% of my life.
