Oh same. Sometimes when I do see these really heartwarming family-centric J dramas, I really do feel the absence of that kind of direction in my life. It's not like they were not there but they just never understood and neither could I truly open up with them. The weird thing is as you grow older, you can make more excuses for it and understand but yet at the same time, the loneliness grows stronger.
I just try to focus on doing my best for myself and the ppl around me, without thinking too much about what I don't have.
Your daughter may not have the father figure, but she has you. And I'm sure you're both a great father and mother to her.
What? Her being a sex worker shows that she was pushed to that end by her scum brother. She was cornered. She…
I completely agree with you. I have no issue with her profession either but it was barely explored and didn't add anything to the story, other than evoke sympathy.
There was a simplicity and sincerity in the way the story was presented, just like the classic J dramas. Cinematography…
I wonder why the writer chose the FL's profession to be a sex worker given that it didn't add anything to the story, nor explain her despair and loneliness. It almost came across as a plot device to evoke sympathy which I really disliked. I really liked Risa's character and wanted to know her thoughts more, and how she grew up. Her psychology was barely explored.
Her connection with her brother was barely explained given that he haunted her throughout the drama. Like why the brother had such a hold on Risa.
The brother was creepy AF and I wanted to know why he was so cruel to Rika. But because the writer didn't flesh him out, it seemed like a plot device to create problems for the leads and sensationalize the story, and make the FL pitiful. And then suddenly he had a change of heart in the last episode and I was like HUH?! Why suddenly? To tie up the loose ends and give it a happy ending?
The doctor's character didn't add anything to the story either. A pity given that the story had potential for the doctor's conflicts to be explored.
The one year time leap was a little too convenient, especially since I really wanted to see how they handled all the mess. It's like the show trivialized the issue of organ trade.
And like everyone said, this definitely needed a little more romance. And I don't mean skinship, but more scenes between the leads (like the scene in E8 when he taught her to ride the bicycle). THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL, AND WE NEEDED MORE OF THOSE KIND OF SCENES! And more of them as a couple!
Strangely, Maria and Ryota were the only characters whose arc was at least built up, and concluded well.
This just had so much potential. For once, I think that a J drama rating on this site is accurate LOL
There was a simplicity and sincerity in the way the story was presented, just like the classic J dramas. Cinematography was vibrant, the score was beautiful and the characters were really likeable, minus the creepy brother. But unlike most classics, this one left a lot to be desired. The biggest gripe was that none of the characters were fleshed out well enough for me to connect with them, which is a pity given that the acting was really earnest, the leads had beautiful chemistry, and I wanted to be 'moved' by the story and their connection. Having said all that, it's really not a bad drama. I'd recommend this to all those who love the classic J dramas.
something like this but less comedic + more angst? any recommendation?
Tengoku to Jigoku: Psychona Futari Boku no Yabai Tsuma Watashi no Otto wa Reitouko ni Nemutte Iru Lupin no Musume [this one is more comedic but you'll love it - it's quite the full package]
I really love his work as an actor but damn if these allegations are true, I don't think I'll be able to watch him on screen anymore. Rape / sexual harrassment is one crime I can't forgive and overlook.
