The writer of this drama had also written Dream High, which also starred Suzy. The first half of the series was clearly going for a Suzy-Taecyeon pairing and they had already kissed -- yet she ended up with Kim Soo-hyun.

But the nature of that drama was an ensemble type of casting so it was easier to switch the ML while this drama had advertised Nam Joo-hyuk as the ML since the beginning and considering his fanbase, it would be difficult for the writer to suddenly have the FL end up with 2ML.

Oh I didn't know that. I thought he was more of Yu Zheng's first choice cause they've worked a few times before afaik.

And I finally watched the finale and.. let's just say Angelababy looked so good with the braided updo. Somehow she suits the cute countryside girl look more than the sophisticated styling she had in Chang-an but still gorgeous either way.

Nothing to say about the cowardly ending, let's just appreciate the fact it's ended lol.

To those who read and liked the book..do not watch this for anything other than the visuals (like I did). You'll be left disappointed (and probably pissed).

I wouldn't have minded Du Chun's lack of visual appeal if he had at least some charms. There are so many actors who don't exactly have chiseled face but they're just so charming and charismatic you end up loving them anyway. But Du Chun is just.. like an extra forced to substitute. How is this pairing more popular among fans I dont understand??

The actress playing Shangguan Xiaomei is a pleasant surprise, I agree. I was indifferent at first, but she grew to be my favorite along with Xu Pingjun. It also helps that I like Xiaomei's voice too, it's soft with a tiny bit of huskiness. Not weak, but not too intimidating either. It's perfect for the role, i wonder if it's the actress' real voice. Speaking of voices, the voice actress of Chengjun is just all too familiar (queen of VA i see you). I can't help but get distracted, and it makes it hard to hate Chengjun. I often get flashes of Zhen Huan here and there.

Oh well, the idol drama atmosphere despite Yun Zhong Ge being a tragedy.. is a tragedy in itself. The moment YZ casted Angelababy I just know it's gonna fail. Actually no, the moment Yu Zheng picked this up, we all knew it's gonna fail lmao. But it's finally the finale tonight so hurray. Prayer circle for Yu Zheng not to stray from the book any more than this. Though it might be pointless for that now after all that mess, I still hope they somehow manage to be faithful to the book ending (although majority seems to hope for the opposite?)

I can't believe they managed to make me dislike Meng Jue and Yun Ge so much. Also they managed to make Ling Gege feel so one dimensional when he's so much more than that. Lu Yi is a pretty good actor but..something's just wrong with the production. They ruined the story they ruined the romance they ruined everything.

Angelababy and Du Chun are the biggest miscast imo. Angelababy is cute and she was tolerable at first when it was all just the cutesy fluff, and not much acting needed but then ask her to have some emotions and she's like a rock trying to be human. And Du Chun is just not charismatic at all like Meng Jue's supposed to be. It's a shame, really. Also so many people are praising Yang Rong but her acting in this is just as boring and shallow. What she basically does 1.) Smirking 2.) Smirking 3.) Smirking 4.) Angry 5.) Smirking 6.) Some crying. But i guess acting beside Angelababy can make anyone look like the best actor.

Somehow this novel is just not suitable to be turned into a television series. It's better left to the reader's imagination. Especially characters like Ling Gege and Meng Jue are just hard to recreate.. or maybe i'm just biased and pissed cause they got my image of them ruined lol.

Is it just me or does angelababy have zero chemistry with any of the two leads.. 36 episodes already and i'm still not convinced with the romance except the side characters Liu He and Hong Yi. Is it wrong casting or terrible writing? Or both? I can't feel the emotional intensity and passion that i got with the original novel. Such a waste of a good story. Still gonna finish it for the visuals tho, since chen xiao and angelababy are such treat for the eyes i'll just pretend it's a super long advertisement for cloths that has nothing to do with Tong Hua's novel.

The type of movie where you have to sacrifice your intelligence to be able to sit through. The setting, costume and visual effects were breathtaking but that's it.

I have no problem with sparing the chief's life but for him to ask Yeojin to stop the hate too is just a huge joke to me since, like i said, he couldn't even forgive his own father yet. Anyway the writer messed up and joowon is too good for that mary sue shit.

I will never forgive the writer for killing yong pal. Kim Taehyun is just ew. Such a disgusting hypocrite asking his wife to forgive someone who actually slit her throat but he couldn't even stand being in the same room with his dad despite his sister begging for them to make up when she's like, dying. Which reminds me, what the hell happened to the dad?

I'll be cautious with medical dramas with "unique" plots from now on. I hope D-day won't go down the same road. Since they're not live filming, there should be less asspulls, right? *fingers crossed*

This trainwreck is just like doctor stranger. Very strong start, you get impressed with the unique plot, then they shove the loveline down your throat, everybody suddenly forgets their own character description and ended as a snoozefest.

So many plot holes, i won't even bother. Just here for the very few seconds when Yeojin was a tough woman.

I guess i'm in the minority when i say i didn't really enjoy this series. The thrill kinda just dissipated around the middle when i started to get distracted by the unrealistic aspects of it all. I could even tolerate the time traveling but the behavior of the characters are just.. But anyway, Ki Dong Chan (and his satoori) made me stay.

Very beautiful cinematography. Wouldn't have guessed this movie's from eight years ago.
