The male and female leads were as far as I could tell portrayed as stereotypically as possible, i.e. woman needs saving, man saves her, blah blah blah. The guise of her being component was only that, a guise, because at the end of the day she still constantly failed and got caught and needed him to save her. It almost makes it worse, at least other dramas don't dress it up, whereas this drama pretends it's different, but really just falls into the same problematic stereotypes

Review The Long Ballad Spoiler
I am asking this sincerely. What exactly did you not like about it? You say it's horrible but didn't go into specifics.…
The main actress has been shot through the heart with an arrow twice in the first 10 episodes alone. She with no change to her appearance passes to everyone around her as a man. Almost every single decision the characters make are blindingly irrational, for example instead of running away or hiding, just standing there. Almost every action scene has been replaced with drawings instead and the ones that were not really should have been.

Just none of it makes any sense at all. Like in an early episode you see her just crouching in plain view getting a perfect view of her uncle discussing highly secretive things and no one sees her. Or how the literal daughter of the emperor had no bodyguards (do a fragment of research and you'll find out this is absurd).

Take another example, in the scene where she gets shot in the heart for the second time. It's so unbelievably absurd that both commanders would be within range of each other with how and arrow, obviously the second they came into range, thousands of soilders on either side would try to kill them.

My point is mainly that these breaks from rational behavior are extremely jarring. As much as I want to watch the show, I'm reminded how stupid it is every 3 seconds when the main actress alternates between behaving like what a ten year old envisions a military genius to act like to a helpless girl who needs some random ass dude to save her. Not to mention, if I ran into a guy that many times, there is no way I wouldn't believe they were stalking me.

I believe that covers the terrible writing and low budget nature of the work, but it could still be argues that the actors are talented in portraying their roles. I wouldn't agree though. The actors and actresses across every role highly exaggerate everything. This is the classic telltale sign of the amateur, the untalented. Take for example the overblown kidnapper or the fat enemy general or his conniving but helplessly stupid advisor. That said, it isn't fair to blame the actors given how hopelessly 1 dimensional all the characters have been written.

I apologize in advance for not blindly fawning over your idols, but you cannot convince any sane individual over the age of 18 that this work is artistically sound and any besides a crude commercial cash grab
