Clothes evolve overtime. If Hanfu survived to today, it would not be the same. In fact, I would find it weird…
Introducing authentic Chinese culture should not be the responsibility of Entertainment industry, but it should be the responsibility of CCP imo. Korea has been promoting their soft power for years. Many historical kdrama are not 100% accurate. Yet, they are doing well in the West. This leads to more people outside of Korea gaining a interest in Korean culture. Why? Because they meet Western taste (aka trendy/modern taste) to certain extent. Majority of cdrama's target audience used to be Chinese who had less exposure to Western culture. As China develops, this is changing ofc which is why the dramas are losing their authenticity in recent year imo. I think the reason why I disagree on responsibility of the Entertainment industry is because I want China to have a stronger soft power. I do understand if you are skeptical.

I haven't seen Legend of Mi Yue yet, but if major of Chinese audiences are oppose of their costume choices, then the producer obv failed. They had one job XD I would imagine it got a bad rating?

@tleaf
Thank you for spreading awareness of Chinese culture. I do agree that people should learn more about their own culture and history, but my disagreement lies on whether entertainment tv drama has the responsibilities to claim authenticity. It's not so much related to being embarrassed by the actual costume, but it's about change in fashion taste. If a producer wants to change costume A BIT to match with the trend and satisfy audiences' demand, I think that's fine.

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand why drama series have this so called responsibilities to claim authenticity. Educating your future children on culture and customs with tv shows is just not a method of education imo.

This is still a period drama regardless lol you are really going down the slippery slope. Period cdrama, kdrama, etc are not truly historically accurate. Most peasants back then can't afford bright color dye, but I highly doubt audiences want to see people walking around in potato sack lol

Those drama exist for the sake of entertainment purpose and not as a historical documentary. If you are watching this to see the reality of these people in the past, then maybe this is not your kind of show? XD

Nice article. I have a critical comment on recent China period dramas. The design of the wardrobe/costume doesn't…

It's not about being able to watch the content or not. I want to buy it to support them too. I don't need subtitles tbh, but hiding the BL posters/etc from my fam is gonna be a pain XD

As expected lots of (Hate) comments or they don't really find it "Unique" Cause it's predictable.…
I understand that you have a urge to defend your possibly favorite drama, but I have not seen any hate comments. They are criticism. Hate comments usually come from people post solely to hate and may not even watch the drama.

It doesn't matter how many drama you watched, not everyone is going to enjoy the same drama regardless of its rating. I watch a lot of Asian drama/movies, whether if it's predictable and full of stereotypes or not. As long it keeps me entertained, everything is good. This drama just doesn't work for me, mainly because unconvincing 'romantic' love between the main leads.

"you're making other people doubt about watching it even though each one of us have different perspective when it comes to drama"
Sorry, but this sounds too silly to me. Shouldn't it be: because we have different perspective, there should be both positive and negative reviews? If this is online store, not making other people doubting of a product by showing only positive reviews is false advertisement.

Nah not offended since this is just your opinion, not an attack (like every other negative reviews) I don't understand why you think negative comments are offensive tho

Only addressing Goblin.. not going to address the others. The funny relationship between the Goblin and the Grim…
I think this is not about physical age gap, but mental. The main leads could be thousand of years apart and still have a great chemistry, but I can't feel any of that here. Or at least romantic anyways. I know right! Like forget sexual chemistry, I don't mind puppy love one bit. Something more convincing than their (friendship) love.

I will finish watching Goblin eventually just for its bromance, but nothing else stands out for me tbh. Maybe because (like what you said) the physical and mental age between the two leads is too much, chemistry is non existent. I wish the writer went with different characters. With the cast and plot, Goblin could have been so much better.

Please whatever you do, do not bash on Okay Thats Love, that drama is like one of the best I have ever seen.
Agree. I actually dropped every other drama on this list, but It's ok, that's love was 100% pure gold. It's so unique and different from the typical drama.
