Actually there are quite some nice thriller/crime or slice of life cdramas but most of them never reached the…
There are many high quality thriller and crime dramas such as The Long Night, The Bad Kids, The Burning Ice, Detective Chinatown, to name just a few of my favorites.

Beside this show being excellent, i hope other producer catches on and start producing lower count episode series…
There have already been many more chinese dramas that are shorter such as iQiyi's crime Light on Series that includes The Long Night and The Bad Kids. Off the top of my head, there's also Remebrance of the Past, Detective Chinatown, Buring Ice, Someday or One Day (Taiwanese). I definitely recommend all of those! I find that the shorter dramas are usually higher quality than longer dramas because chinese dramas earn money by having more episodes so long dramas are usually just money makers, whereas shorter dramas have the goal of making every minute high quality and definitely no draggy plot.

Can we talk about the characters for a second? And not the 2 leads. Basically everyone in the bus has a backstory…
It's very ζ£εˆι˜³ε…‰ (Daylight Entertainment) style who produced this drama. All of their dramas are very high in quality and golden. The people on the bus were originally only tool people but the scriptwriter added in a backstop for every one of them so that they aren't merely tools anymore! I appreciate the high quality of the script so much!!

Yes, I get the impression that many people give a drama 10 if they're satisfied with it. How do you rate? I haven't…
1 - why does this exist?
2- failure
3 - a complete waste of time
4 - almost no positive aspects
5 - it's watchable if it's your thing and you like the actors.
6 - a pretty good drama if you like the genre.
7 - a very good drama with minor faults.!
8 - an excellent and rare watch!
9 - an outstanding work of literature!
10 - absolute perfection!
I would recommend dramas I rate around 6-10

Indeed! They are a powerhouse when it comes to stellar executions, and their brand in my opinion is synonymous…
OMG don't even get me started on my adoration for the hard work that Daylight Entertainment put in to give us such quality dramas! I've really enjoyed Minning Town and Nirvana in Fire. I definitely plan to watch Ode to Joy, Story of Minglan, and The Disguiser

I've noticed that 4/10 dramas are produced by Daylight Entertainment. They're truly the #1 company in Cdrama industry.
Which one is the 4th? I only recognized Minning Town, Like a Flowing River, and Nirvana in Fire

I feel like we're pretty harsh when it comes to rating stuff here on MDL (myself included), but lol at least we're…
MDL raters aren't as bad as Viki, however it doesn't change the fact that the result of the "harshness" are 99% of dramas rated between 7-10

Chinese domestic ratings are sometimes quite diff to MDL ratings. A few of the shows that has elements that sways…
I politely disagree with your note on swaying the audience with patriotism because although it's one aspect of it, the bigger reason is that it was made to be a patriotic drama that's not supposed to disappoint so the production team puts 100x the effort. It's why we see such a moving script in those 2 dramas as well as a strong team of actors who get presented awards for their amazing acting. Fun fact: Daylight Entertainment, which has a golden reputation guaranteeing the quality of any drama that it produces, produced Minning Town, Like a Flowing River, Nirvana in Fire, The Disguiser. Those were all mentioned in this article. Acting in a patriotic drama doesn't give the actors a free ticket to award shows as well. In fact, everyone thought that the FL in Minning Town would win the Magnolia Awards due to her bewildering performance, however it wasn't the case and there was a riot on Weibo regarding that.

I always feel that douban and mdl have its own pros and cons. With douban, a fluff only drama bears no chance…
"I use 6-10, like it’s 1-5 stars" is exactly the problem with the ratings on MDL. Because people don't rate very diversely, the outcome is that every drama is in between 7-10 on MDL. On Douban however, you get a diversity of dramas rated from 2 - 10. The reason why most fluffy dramas don't get a high rating is because the script is not as outstanding and the acting is typical. One drama that isn't like other fluffy romance dramas is "With You" that you saw ranked 8th on this article. Example of very high rated fluffy romance dramas are "My Huckleberry Friends" (rated 8.6), "Lovely Us" (rated 8.1), and "I Don't Want to be Friends With You" (rated 8.1).

For some reason I was under the assumption that The Untamed was really very popular in China, so a little surprised…
You're not wrong, The Untamed really blew up the entirety of China even more than it did overseas. That doesn't mean that the raters on Douban will completely overlook a drama's obvious flaws just due to the leading actor's good looks and its overwhelming popularity, whereas MDL raters will. There's when you can tell the different between MDL and Douban. MDL 's ratings are based on how popular a drama is, hence your impression that a really popular drama would have a rating just as high as it's popularity.

I have never made my judgement on whether I want to watch a drama based on MDL's ratings, I always use Douban. Reason being, MDL ratings simply have no diversity. You can hardly find anything that's not 7-10. On douban, there's a huge range of ratings from 2-9. The ratings on MDL don't represent the overall quality of the drama, but rather the popularity of it, the popularity and looks of the actors, and how large its fandom is. In contrast, the majority of very popular dramas don't dominate on Douban's highest-rated shows list (as you can tell from this list, "The Untamed" is nowhere to be seen). I don't look at, nor care about the ratings on MDL as it isn't a trustworthy or accurate representation of the actual drama.
