This is definitely a thing that some dramas are guilty of, and having women supposedly passionately in love with MLs yet acting like terrified virgins about to be raped is tiresome at best. I feel that we see less of that these days though, thank goodness. It's a hangover from back in the day when women weren't supposed to 'want' sex, it was just for procreation, because if they did it for pleasure, they were seen as being immoral 🙄

Step monster is now only relying on her BiL and Daddy for support, and they are at odds, so realistically it's just Daddy. DZ has her imperial edict to decide her own marriage, so Daddy has to tread carefully there to oppose it, because telling the Emperor he made a bad decision can result in you losing your head. As much as Daddy loves his daughter/the stepmonster, I don't think he'd be prepared to risk it. The only other people who could safely interfere would be the Empress or the Grand Princess, and I can't see that either if them have a reason to intercede on step monster's behalf, especially as both were involved in the matchmaking of the leads.

I haven't seen any, but I've seen other dramas where we've been excited for the leaked kiss scenes, and they've ended up the the cutting room floor.

Yeah, Dad has a looong way to go to redeem himself. You don't get to be the good guy because you did one Dad thing after years of doing Not Dad things. He also didn't reign in his wife with how she treated Ming. The oversight would be normal for the time if he had sons he was prioritising, but he didn't. He literally only had one daughter at home who was being treated like shit by her mother.

Song Mo doing the most for his girl in the healthiest of ways. I'm also loving no toxic SML or sister/maid. I have a soft spot for strong male leads who are smitten kittens for strong smart women.

I mean, given that his dad kept bashing him and kicking him out, I don't know why his father would be surprised that he gravitated towards his uncle AFTER that. I know that corporal punishment was normal, but kicking young kids out of the house was not. I still think there's something deeper there.

The subs I've got are also sometimes mixing up Dukes Jing and Ding, which would make the storyline very confusing if you're not paying strict attention to realise it's an error.

I agree with this. I thought he was much better in the beginning, it looked like he very much got the joke. It actually feels like the first and second half were made by two different directors.

This was super entertaining and very funny up until it started to take itself very seriously, and then it just became another god awful drama with no budget. And the episodes may have been short, but there was still far too many of them, and it became a real slog to get through. FL is a naturally charming actress, but I don't want to even talk about ML's "performance" or the terrible ashy eyebrows they slapped on him. Also, several of his costumes look like they're made out of plastic.
