tbh with the screentime devoted to Shan Shan how the ML told his mom that Shan Shan was “Yuan Yuan”, I half-expected Shan Shan’s mom to turn out to be his sister’s daughter. And that he had seduced his niece out of spite for his sister abandoning him. But I guess that would never pass censorship. 🤔
Find it ironic that the writer used the saying “北雁南飞 遍地凤凰难下足” (when the northern geese—meaning Song Yan—fly south, he won’t be able to find a place to land among the phoenixes—the privileged and distinguished scholars) to take Song Yan down a peg because legend has it: when detractors used this exact line to deride Song Xiang (an accomplished Qing dynasty poet who, like Song Yan, came from humble origins), Song Xiang was brilliant to enough to come back with the repartee “东龙西跃,满江鱼鳖尽低头” (the east dragon—Song Xiang is representing himself as a dragon here, which is more esteemed than the phoenix—dances in the west, the river of fishes and turtles—meaning the scholars who insulted him—all bow their heads).
Now we know Song Yan will never live to up to his mother’s hopes nor achieve a lick of Song Xiang’s genius because he’s pathologically incapable of introspection and constantly lives with a victim complex. Sad really because I thought he was coming to his senses at the start of the episode.
Our couple's scenes were pretty outstanding today, loved when he comforted her from the nightmare, but I have…
Absolutely adored how XZ stayed in the shadows and let CY stand up for herself back in Lin An. He had total faith in her and supported her in the shadows which adds oodles to his charm and sets him apart from the typical 大男人 male leads plaguing so many cdramas.
Listen, I love this drama to bits and am fully committed to watching to the end but the writer dropped the ball there suddenly including that fire story in EP 27.
SYM said her parents in the real world died saving her from a fire. Naturally this would mean she possibly could have some trauma related to fires (assuming she was old enough to understand what was going on). And where would have been a good place to hint at her backstory? How about during the Lantern Festival when she witnessed an inferno unfolding before her? NH had his flashback of him trapped in the cabinet surrounded by flames so I’m baffled why this couldn’t have been done for FL too.
Shoehorning this tragic story 3/4 into the plot honestly feels like sloppy writing and trying to win pity points out of nowhere.
Again I can say with my whole chest that I love this drama (it’s been years since any cdrama has captured my attention for more than 20 episodes and a damn near miracle that all the comedic scenes has got me falling over my sides laughing). So this feels even more of a disappointment and cop-out especially when SYM’s character DOESN’T NEED it and it overall cheapens her character development. We can already clearly see she values her ‘script’ family without this backstory.
Easily one of Liu Yu Ning's best performances, he's so good in this. But Li Yi Tong is even out-performing him…
Absolutely, I’ll never understand why LYT is so heinously slept on domestically/internationally. Just the sheer talent displayed in Bloody Romance and Royal Nirvana (which by no means is an easy script yet she held her own against the veteran actor Luo Jin she was paired with) should have made her rise to the same level of acclaim as contemporary A-list Cdrama actresses.
Dude can break through iron chains and reinforced doors in ep 4 but can't escape some flimsy locked doors and windows in ep 15? Admit it, NH, you ✧wanted✧ to be trapped in that room 🤣
Li Yitong is really a brilliant actress. She created and played many different characters seriously well whatever…
I’m so glad you brought up her role in Royal Nirvana!! 😭😭😭 I knew girly could act after seeing how she knocked it out of the park in Bloody Romance but it was her truly grueling role in Royal Nirvana that catapulted her to one of the best actresses in my eyes (not just amongst C actresses but all actors/actresses ever). I avoid politics-heavy dramas like the plague but it was her standout portrayal of Wen Xi that directly led to me sticking out the 60+12 episodes (and crying through 2 full boxes of 3ply tissues), making it one of the most memorable Cdramas I’ve ever—gladly—suffered through. 🥹 She’s way overdue for an explosion in recognition.🥲
In the latest preview stills of Jang uk holding her hand… could be my eyes playing tricks but is that a blue spot above her heart? Slightly visible through her soaked clothes
This kinda random but....The violin piece that man plays in episode 7...can anyone tell me its name?
The one played by yujin park under the tree? Sounds really similar to Schumann’s Träumerei (interestingly this piece was at the centre of Park Eunbino’s other drama Do You Like Brahms so I’ld bet she found it familiar too)
Dont you guys think he kind of look like Park Yoo Chun? In drama Find me in ur memory, i always see park yoo chun…
this is really late but I came across an article about park yoo chun and drug charges tonight, had to do a double take at the photo and panicked that yet another airing drama (you are my spring) might be affected by negative press surrounding the actor and I'm only NOW processing that KDW and PYC are 2 different people??? and along I thought it was the same person acting in rooftop prince, missing you and the guest

Nice to see our MCs smiling
