How did Left Minister have so much power that he could control the king? Did they explain that and I missed it? Did he control the army or have a million minions or something? I'm sure he had support from within the court but surely not so much they'd overthrow the king in favor of Lefty. The only time he seemed to have leverage was when he threatened the Queen Dowager with the rice theft. And yet he kept the king so firmly under his thumb he couldn't get the upper hand for 15 years? How?!

And why could the deceased king's words damn him but the current king's couldn't?

This was sooo good. I enjoyed every second of it! But there's something I didn't understand; I hope y'all can explain. I'll put it in a reply under spoilers.

I didn't think it was, but I'm still really curious about the time period. Like I'm assuming the fashion/architecture/society is all based on a certain historical era. Because I'm so ignorant of Korean history I can't even narrow it down to a specific century. The only clue I have is that it seems to be during the Qing Dynasty, which only narrows it down to three centuries.

It's not important to understand the story, just me wanting to know more about other cultures :)

Anyone know what year(ish) this is set? I'm new to kdrama and don't know much about Korean history, so I'm really curious!

Another reason I think she wants ZZ to his wife is that she knows he doesn't love her. So JSN will always be the most important woman in his life. That's why ZJ is such a threat, she's taking his love away from her.

But it seems like it might have happened back in Germany (just guessing by the henchmen), and I have SO many questions. Poor ZJ--she's been dealing with that on her own all this time 🙁 She's actually really been through it in a really short time frame... first her assault, that bullsh!t imprisonment, then FYS getting jumped and her thinking it's somehow her fault, and now THIS? Poor thing's gotta be traumatized.

I know, right?? And when did that happen? For a second I thought maybe I'd accidentally skipped an episode or something. I NEED FYS to see his mother for what she truly is.

I'm trying to start this but after that opening I need to know if the two MLs are at all redeemable for me, because I'm pretty disgusted by their inaction in that horror show. Am I supposed to think the one dude is a hero because he didn't shoot women for sport?? He still allowed it to happen! And the next day, he's still hanging around these dudes all buddy buddy? Is there a deeper plot here where he secretly hates these horrible nobles or am I just going to hate this guy forever?

And the other one, Yuwen something... he not only keeps all these slaves, but allows them to be terribly abused! Is this not his estate the FL was brought to? Couldn't he stop the torture and sexual exploitation of these girls if he wanted to??

I'm only halfway through the second episode, so can someone tell me if this show is worth sticking with for me? Is there a reasonable explanation for all this? Because the FL seems really cool, but I'm like legitimately upset with MLs, lol. To the point I'm not sure I wanna keep watching.
