she cut ties with her family because they were blacklisted for opposing the communist government (or something like that, i don't quite remember). he thinks she looks just like his first love, who passed away. they entered into a marriage of convenience, but eventually started developing real feelings for each other. for a long time, she believes she’s just a replacement, while he thinks she doesn't truly love him

and i don't get why people say it's a bad ending. i know a lot of people tend to hate sad endings, but this one was well-executed (even if it killed me inside)
