Started this some weeks ago while randomly browsing Cdramas on iQiyi. When all of a sudden, Liu Xue Yi appeared on screen. Da geee, ni sama lai la? Again? You gotta be kidding me? π«£
I finished this some weeks/months ago and realized just now that the male lead was Bai Jing Ting. Well, he's mild-mannered here and the romance is, umm, chaste (as always with Cdramas). In the First Frost, he's better looking and his physique is well-toned.
What's that? Which one do we prefer? Why, Sang Yan, of course! π
Watched this for Qiqi because I didn't realize I missed his handsome face so much. π
Couldn't give it a higher rating because I felt some parts were ridiculous (like how the FL fainted but they took her away and she could walk, like how there were too many awkward positions when they're supposed to be unconscious/asleep...or how the cast is made to stand and watch a dialogue unfold).
Did not realize Liu Xue Yi (Bro, what the f were you doing in this series? You made my blood boil!) and Zhang Yu Xi were here, and I just completed Love at Night. (I am still traumatized at what happened to Linglong. I hope I can get over this soon. She has two other dramas with Cheng Yi.)
Gotta say though I went down the rabbit hole once I started watching.
About Ep 44ish, I started wondering how it was going to wrap up. All this while I put off watching the last few episodes of Legend of the Female General. And yes, Bai Shu looks handsome in platinum blonde hair.
Haha, different tone and different genre. FL is not a hopeless romantic and it kind of coincides with modern women…
I like love-hate tropes. When done right, it leaves you with a lasting impression. So it depends on the execution. When you say messy and angsty, I get a picture of Gui Hong in my mind. And I feel bad for this character because he was reduced to being bitter and frustrated. There are a lot of ways to portray a villain. Rage-bait is one, but it can be emotionally draining.
oh gosh I almost gave up at Ep 26, and it will get messed up in the episodes ahead. Hold on until the end. Just…
NH/LSL appealed to emotions and his actions are in sync with logic because he's into his character or at least in the drama, he's THAT character. SYM has that added level of consciousness because she's SXY in "real life, a layer of reality that detaches her emotions from the script that she's in. I get it that she is reluctant to fully step in because it's fate. But the drama could have polished the plots, timing, and character development. Her indecisiveness stretched to almost two-thirds of the drama where the scriptwriter had to 'step in' and 'salvage' his work. Even that took the drama to whole new level of messiness.

Hmm. The FL is not a hopeless romantic, I'd agree to that. Maybe that's why after all of what Song Yimeng said about killing NH, her "redemption" fell short/lacking. The timing (of her "redemption") could have also been better.
Yimeng saying that she did all of that to kill him reminded me of Bai Lu's character in TTEotM. And to hear this when more than half of the drama has been watched, is disheartening, frustrating and dismaying to hear.
At some point in this drama, I kept thinking, "could this get any worse?" It only got better in the last few episodes.
Oh drama gods, please give him a main role in a drama so I can binge-watch him and wash this rancid taste away when I remember his character from "A Dream within a Dream."

ok but I still don't feel her. π« Thank you, Boo! π
