I feel like this is Suzy’s best performance to date. Her acting here was stellar and keeps one on their toes. The script was just so-so though (and had so many holes) so it’s a pity! Anyway, kudos to Suzy and the other cast! They carried the series despite the material being lacking.
Turning a blind eye to the poor teleplay. I have to commend the production for their post-editing though! The cinematography and musical scoring for this series have set the mood pretty well throughout.
I rarely talk about my watches to my friends or relatives. So, of course, I do not even have a struggle of mulling over recommeding or not recommending. Posting on MDL alongside other watchers is enough for me if I really want to talk about something. Though if ever someone really does ask me, maybe I’ll recommend a thing or two that is liked by many (I might even say, I don’t like this or this is not really my cup but maybe you’ll like this as majority raves about it) but I probably won’t overthink if they didn’t like or watch it. Anyway, I just watch shows for my personal enjoyment so it won’t dampen my mood if someone hates what I enjoy/ed watching (boils down to it having a subjective effect on you really — aside from considering things objectively — so why care if someone can’t understand why you like it).
Btw, loved that Jeon Yeobeen thumbnail you used for the article! Never clicked so fast! ;)
I understand what you mean :) I think he looks like he could be like 17-19 but I feel that his face is very cute…
Sometimes, I adore timid and awkward characters but I guess it isn’t the case with Lou for me rn. I don’t hate the actor but I definitely dislike his character. Anyway, at least.. perk is I get to reduce a bit of phone screentime as I skip his scenes. Lol
E11: This episode showcased the wit and bravery of FL. She literally turned into a war strategist — calm and collected — holding the fort. I’m stanning real hard!
His character is supposed to be a very insecure and unsure young man
Yes, I get it but I guess I really just dislike his character. Nothing against the actor too because it’s prolly just his makeup and styling? But yeah, he looks like way too much of a kid for me to enjoy watching him get infatuated with CSS.
It's because Ni Ni prefers main dramas, not idol dramas. Main dramas are hard to get and the availability is not…
Yep! Being lead girl for a Zhang Yimou production is a brand itself and that title itself is enough for her talent to be sought by other big productions. In a way, she is lucky too but if course, ZYM won’t even choose her if he hasn’t seen any potential in her so obviously, the skills is there already for her to begin with. One of the younger gen that is critically acclaimed now is probably Zhou Dongyu.
Aside from the mother, the only complaint I have in this show is that Lou kid. I understand that the characters are technically still teenagers but the actor is really looking like he’s a 12-year old kid. Whenever I see him on screen, I don’t know why but I can’t take him seriously and it’s honestly making me cringe. I probably sound mean but it is what it is for me! 😭

Yep! I get what you are saying. It’s not about downplaying other celebrities at all or even overpraising Ni Ni’s talent but it’s a fact that what she has right now under her name is something anyone would want to have. Also, even if she ain’t liuliang or at times, even labeled underrated (especially by international community), she is actually doing very, very well in their industry. Even her fashion resources say it all. Always on the cover of top magazines. Always wearing haute couture. People might think she is not that popular but I think she has enough influence and recognition in China not to be bothered at all with having not the biggest fandom — it’s because with or without the fanbase, it’s the brands and productions that seek for her.
E9: Such a wholesome episode! Would have been a perfect one if not for the screentime of FL’s mother. Anyway, I like Old Madam Wan’s character so far. What a wise woman befitting of her role in her family as their pillar! Can’t say the same for the Cheng Family having such a grandmother like that and FL’s mother being an unreasonable control freak. Meanwhile, I’m happy to finally see the leads interacting. I love their moments this episode fr! Like, the whole time, I was just literally smiling as I watched their interactions.

Agree! Not to mention, not everyone could be a movie actor in China. It’s hard to star in a mainstream series (main drama) but someone told me before it’s even tougher to enter film industry there. With these things taken into consideration, it’s not that Ni Ni doesn’t get as much resources but she actually just has the luxury to take her time on choosing her next roles.
Not really a fan of GJ but I’m so gonna watch this for my Mimi (+omg I just saw the posters and they both look good in those — but Mimi extra good in those posters).
Jeon Yeobeen was supposed to cameo here alongside Uhm Tae Goo but she wasn’t able to because of her schedule. It’s a pity really (and having awareness of that information saddens me as a fan lol)! :(
Zhao Lusi has been a familiar face for me. I’ve seen her in some of her roles — as supporting and main (mostly the former... but I have yet to really get that one character from her to adore). One thing is for certain, I have always seen the potential in her acting! Her portrayal in Love Like the Galaxy is definitely an instant love for me though. Finally, I have a work from her that has me enthralled! She’s doing a great job fr! In conclusion, I’m thrilled to ‘re-discover’ her this year!
This is literally amazing! I watched this without any expectation (didn’t even watch the trailer but the promo still cuts piqued my interest) and now, I regret it because I have to wait weekly until 27 episodes are fully unlocked. I adore the FL so much! My poor baby deserves the world! Wishing her all the love she could receive!
Some actors (especially other idol actors) would prolly want to have a filmography like his — it shows range and not to mention, he’s been working with A-list hallyu and chungmuro actors.

All in all, this watch was decent but insipid!
