I am absolutely in love with this show and the characters. The development has been slow and steady, making it feel more real than a lot of shows. Having full characters alongside the mains has been a blessing, because it makes the entire world complete. All too often the secondary characters are just plot gears necessary to keep the narrative motor connected to the mains. Also, Heesu's family are not just comic relief or greek chorus: they serve an important narrative purpose. The longer-than-typical runtime is also great because it gives everything time to breathe and sit with the viewer.
Lots of people complaining about the straight couple. I hear that in theory, but I think the show is making a very deliberate point about how social expectations make straight relationships far easier than queer ones. Heesu and Seungwon are both held back by social constraints against queer people and their relationships, which can be tough in any context, but Korea in particular can be extremely challenging. I feel their fear, and I think the show's gradual shift for Heesu (who's spent most of his life knowing Chanyeong and that includes a ton of background) is and needs to be slow, because these feelings for Seungwon are new, and very different. Heesu has to first overcome his feelings for Chanyeong and then realize that (a) Seungwon is someone he finds interesting and likable and (b) that he can have romantic feelings for someone who isn't Chanyeong.
So far this show is on track to be in my top five for the year and one of my VERY FEW repeat watches. Anyone who isn't watching this is missing out.
