I often met people out of context and did not recognize them. your doctor, your priest, anyone working with a special outfit, if you meet them out of context with casual clothes, you will have trouble recognizing them even if you know them personally (you met in the flesh and talked together).

When you’ve experienced it once, you tend to be more understanding. "maybe I’m wrong", or, "he’s wrong but that’s okay".

yes but it doesn't mean you can recognize the person from a photo. I don't remember how she introduced herself but I am not sure she used her full name. and even if she had, few people can recognize a name seen in work when dealing with real life. changing the circumstances you are used to see an info can be enough to make you loose sight on it.
if you are always that accurate, I understand why you don't get it. but most people are not that accurate, unless they work in the police (you are used to do this exercise).
