If anyone would be interested in what I think are underrated Jdramas (+one movie) then here are 5 that I really…
I would really like to get into jdramas, so I hope you dont kind my asking this. But why do Japanese actors and actresses appear scruffier and not as well-groomed as their Korean and Chinese counterparts? The MLs look like they haven’ t combed their hair and the women look dowdy.
"It may be presumptuous to voice but a viewer imposing their own expectations of what a story should be, while it was never intended to be a particular way in the first place... "
- I totally agree with this line from your article because it sums up my previous mentality. I realized that I wasn't enjoying the romance dramas that I was watching simply because I was imposing MY expectations on the actors and the storyline. True, I wish all FLs were more mature and take-charge, and I frankly love a good love triangle.
- So I decided to dial back my expectations and watch the story unfold as told by the actors. I also decided to switch to cdramas when it comes to romance shows just because the relationships (and kisses!) are more realistic. I'm happy to say that once I tweaked my mindset, I am a happier viewer now.
- But: regardless of my mental readjustment, I will NEVER tolerate shows with FLs who look like middle schoolers cosplaying as adults (sorry GGS and Miss Crow with Mr Lizard). I have certain standards of joy after all.
Am binging this because FINALLY, here’s a show where the FLs are dressed well. I’m fed up with actresses looking like middle schoolers about to cosplay as adults. Looking at you: Go Go Squid, Miss Crow & Mr Lizard, Perfect & Casual. Grrr.
Last point: which of the 2 guys fighting for Mo Fei do you think is more upfront about his intentions? I am on ep 13 and already I’m rooting for the second lead.
I couldn't agree more. I'm on ep 17, please tell me that the FL stands up more for herself and makes better choices!!!…
Aw crap, I was afraid of that. Ah well, i’m glad you told me so I can stop wasting my time and move on to another show, preferably one with an FL with more dignity.
did you prefer this movie or the drama? I'm on ep 17 of the drama and I'm just about to strangle both leads for…
Wow, thanks for your comment. I have to make an effort to tamp down my Western sensibilities when watching Asian dramas, everyone seems reserved and too submissive for my taste. Which is why what you said about the leads ‘...not wanting to show their emotions to the other party...’ is so true of me — I tend to be too impatient and dismissive. Need to fix that ;-)
Anyway, i’m on ep21 and I think i’ll finish it. Thanks for your suggestions and the link to the ebook. I’m a big reader so i’m happy to have this.
