It's cuteness OVERLOAD! I just can't contain myself!!!
Just wish it wouldn't finish so soon. The casting is just perfect. The diminutive form of the main lead as compared to that of the main male lead further accentuates the contrast between her exuberant personality and his seemingly cold demeanor.
I think this drama is overrated. I couldn't get into it until episode 10. I slogged on for the sake of finishing it. I fast forwarded a lot of episodes. A 7.5 rating for me.
There is zero chemistry between the main couple! I am at episode 24 where they are physically expressing their fondness for one another, and they fail to convince me of their feelings. The female lead is too wooden and looks anorexic. Janice has more chemistry with Luhan. I think she plays the impish very well.
I find the pacing to be really slow; I have been fast-forwarding the last couple of episodes.
It's a smart movie that adds a futuristic twist to is a stereo-typical kung fu movie. It is a first time I have seen this blend of genres. I loved the ending! A 9/10 for me. For some reason, I cannot submit my rating. Highly recommend.
Based on the positive reviews, I started watching it. The first few episodes didn't catch my attention. It was just hokey. But I slogged on, and it wasn't until episode 14 that it got interesting. I finished the drama for the sake of finishing it.
Thank you for the recommendation. I usually don't watch modern-day Chinese dramas, but decided to watch it after reading on your article. I enjoyed it and also liked the ending. It shows that the female lead is also willing to sacrifice herself for her love. It is quite poignant really.
I think I prefer the 1st ending. Even though it is not a happy ending, it is a poignant one. They both die together on the heart-shaped petals, symbolizing their love for one another. Zang Peng, having learned love, slipped into pool to recapture the couple' s beautiful time together. Having been a woman and experienced love, Zang Peng hopefully will learn to respect women and start to love honestly. (I am assuming that he did not commit suicide as he was wearing swimming trunks. If he did decide to kill himself, it is only to return to his objet d'amour, with whom he had shared true happiness.)
The alternative segment provides an open ending, leaving the viewers to ponder about the fate of the reincarnated King and Peng, given the same-gender twist.
This drama is a little bit racy. May be the moderator can add a warning/film rating?
I am referring to the ogling and touching of the concubines' breasts and legs, the butt grabbing, and the lovemaking in episode 24. I know some of them were done in the name of good fun; but for the more sensitive viewers, these actions may offend them.
Personally, I watch the drama with levity - even had some loud guffaws.
Would someone who has seen the entire drama recommend devoting about 32 hours watching this drama? There aren't that many reviews, so I don't know if I should start it or not.
I was floundering around for something to watch, nothing was quite hitting the spot - funny, charming, romantic,…
I felt the disconnect as well. May be if there were more scenes with the adult characters, the plot development would have been smoother for the viewing audience to follow. I guess they wanted to use Joe Chen and Jerry Yan's star power to attract more viewers.
