That's only her stage name. Her real name is Lee Ji Eun, which is prettty commom in Korea. She once explained that IU ( to give the idea of "I and you") is because she belives in the power music has aproaching people, that is one of her favorite things in beeing a musician for her, beeing part of it. ^^ that´s why
